fun

Nice, except some rough edges like the outstratched ledge that kills momentum and not optimized fast move at the very end. And obviously too long for casuals.

A lot of back and forth, but the thumbnail helped me clear my doubts about the intended solution.
I also initially wanted to connect funnel and light bridge for the final move, but before I was trying to pull that off I found the intended solution. Thumbs up.

I will also say, it's a bit strange I hadn't played this one even though it was uploaded way back in 2017. I've always taken breaks from the game, but the last (longest) one began near the end of 2019 so I should've gotten around to this earlier. Oh well, better late than never.

Thoughts [telegra.ph] . Don't want to flood the comment section, I've had enough of flooding after having to flood this entire map in blue gel. :P

TLDR: Super fun, loved bouncing around everywhere. Also quite difficult, as you've accurately predicted and others have experienced. Some steps took me 10-15 minutes to complete each, and the last move took me the better part of an hour to work out (and even then I ended up discovering an alternate solution it seems a couple of others have already found).

There's a couple of oddities that could've been handled a bit better, e.g. different cube types/colors, portal magnet for the light bridge surface. But this was a blast to both explore and solve. This is one of my favorite Portal 2 maps.

No blindrun since I messed up my recording, sorry.

head hurty. I even played this one before in a hammerized version. Still struggled.

The cubes probably should have been different colors. I got confused a few times.

Really fun and challenging, thanks!
G4lvatron 7 Feb, 2023 @ 6:16pm
Very nice. I spent most of my play-through not knowing what the final move would be. By the time I figured it out I had already made a mistake and had to redo most of the solution... oops.

I solved it the same as written the previous comment, by using funnel, light bridge and gel:)
Here is my solution (it's done in the other version of the map):

This puzzle is great, I just made it a lot harder for myself :)
HappyMaskSpartan 14 Mar, 2022 @ 8:20pm
i solved it by putting the light bridge portal under the gel so there was some gel in the light bridge room, putting the cube on the button to open the fizzler for the funnel room, putting the light bridge portal above the cube then moving the portal to the funnel so the gel dropped onto the cube, causing the cube to bounce off of the button allowing me to float through with the funnel and light bridge in the same portal... now that ive read the comments i see the solution is much simpler than that, but i stand by the fact that my solution is way cooler

Outstanding. Good work.
Steve1965 26 Jan, 2021 @ 7:43pm
There's always that way that I think I need to go to solve it, which is the impossible; and the I suddenly discover the right way. Great puzzle!
MrMister 8 Jan, 2021 @ 1:20pm
Had fun with this one - after solving it I looked at the intended solution, and I never thought of using fall momentum to reach high in the exit room , which I only have myself to blame for given that I've been playing all your chambers in order, but I ended up finding an alternate final move that I don't find to be particularly inelegant.

This image pictures what I did: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/profiles/76561198012249221/home/

It's actually surprisingly consistent, even if the cube in the middle of the button instead of on its edge . I only needed three tries to pull it off, with the first being used to interpolate the timing of the third. And if you fail, there's no penalty - just grab the cube and try again immedieately, no need to reload or anything.

@canticle Hahaha, excellent! Sounds like you had quite the adventure :) Congrats on the solve, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
canticle 27 Oct, 2020 @ 2:51pm
What an adventure...I did it, but so many dead ends in my head, in addition to intended ends, that I imagine it would still be a challenge to do correctly again. Many hours. I was so convinced that one was supposed to use the funnel to gain altitude at the vertical light bridge that, though I was basically done, I spent hours when I was already 99% done--took thinking about it in bed to see the bridge was all I needed. A long time spent getting exactly right portal positions to paint the walls over the goo near the bridge figuring it was needed to preserve a portal at the bridge...only to find there was no way to do it over the second pit. So much wasted time....arrrggggghh! Well, I guess a puzzle named Swahbuckle should have a good couple of piratey "argh"s! Guess I shouldn't be "blue" about it :) ....I need to stop. :p2orange:

Really neat test; I only have three complaints:
1) The cleansing gel dispenser should always be on; I was trying to wash a cube off and it kept bouncing away when I let go of it to turn on the dispenser.
2) Actually got caught up under some of the angled panels when trying to bounce around and that was a bit frustrating.
3) Keeping track of the cubes was a bit hard; I would suggest using the BEE2.4 cube colorizer.

Amazing blue map. I also way overthought the final move. Thanks for your work!
Teo 28 Feb, 2020 @ 3:47pm
note: I even found a way to bring both the funnel and a cube to the exit
Teo 28 Feb, 2020 @ 3:29pm
very very nice, I even brought a cube to the exit :D
vallibus 14 Jun, 2019 @ 2:41pm
Holy guacamole! Another great challenge. Your puzzles require me to burn up brain cells and I don't have that many to spare.
Spider_Dawg 6 Apr, 2019 @ 5:50am
Great test once again. I agree with Izzle about the bouncy parts being a bit frustrating, there were far more "oh crap" moments than "aha" moments, but overall solving it made me feel both smart (for finally getting it) and stupid (for taking so long). Signs of a great map.

wildgoosespeeder 9 Feb, 2019 @ 11:59am
I overthought the last bit and I was like d'oh after thinking about it. Be sure to coat as many platforms in blue gel as possible. Once you have both cubes, take the second obtained cube and place it on the button nearest the funnel. The first obtained cube should be resting on the button nearest the blue gel. Act like you are obtaining the second cube for the first time. This should perform a cube sacrifice. This puts you in the position of being able to fling once you use the light bridge to cross both goo gaps; having one fizzler nearest the blue gel disabled while holding the cube to disable the other fizzler nearest the light bridge. Then fling to the exit. The exit is already open at the start of the test.

@Leomievs Thanks, pleased you liked it! Glad someone noticed all the ocean theming <3
Leo 21 Jan, 2019 @ 4:00am
Nice test, it was fun messing around with blue gel. I like how everything revolves around the ocean theme - even the music title!

@Paper Thank you very much! Really glad you've enjoyed the collection. I have plenty more maps I could request but they might be a little weirder - plus of course I'm making new maps all the time <3

Really liked the portal management and bounce gel usage in this one. Gonna miss doing your "Best Of" maps once I do Skyranger. All your maps have been really fun thus far!
bachwiz18 27 Jan, 2018 @ 12:18pm
Not at all. Though it would've been cool to have one more step involving cube recall in the big room...like if the star button opened the exit or something...I thought I was clever with that but it ended up not being necessary for the final step .
Demon Arisen  [author] 27 Jan, 2018 @ 11:28am
@bachwiz18 Thanks! Glad you liked it. Oh dear, hope that ending wasn't too disappointing...
bachwiz18 27 Jan, 2018 @ 11:20am
Great puzzle! I got so hung up on trying to get through the funnel into the light bridge room that the intended solution felt too easy and I didn't even try it for like half an hour.
Lorefunder 25 Jan, 2018 @ 4:27am
Yeah no problem. One of my favorites by you!

Fucking fantastic, challenging, and satisfying. 10/10
Vapid Clay 28 Oct, 2017 @ 10:15am
What a brilliantly clever map. I'll add another vote in favor of the uninteneded bit near the end where you drop blue gel on the cube. It may not be what you intended, but it's a satisfying way to go out. I did have to quick save and load a few times during the bouncing parts of the test, when I found myself hitting the undersides of those raised panels and therefore unable to again reach the necessary height to hit the top sides of those panels, so I'd imagine that would have been frustrating if not for F6/F7.
Miami Mike 16 Oct, 2017 @ 9:17am
I have a pet name for that gimmick: I call it a "cube swapper." It seems to be a favorite device of Demon Arisen, but other top-notch test designers use it as well.
Mikeastro 24 Sep, 2017 @ 1:28pm
May I copy Steve1965's comment? Because I was planning on typing the EXACT same thing - of course including ''Great Puzzle'' :D
Steve1965 2 Sep, 2017 @ 8:01pm
Great puzzle. I envisioned the light bridge with funnel final solution but I couldnt figure how to knock the cube off the star button to turn off the laser grid. I tried dropping bounce gell on it from the overhead panel but it sprayed around it and would not hit the cube. Then I thought of the intended solution as an afterthought.
Demon Arisen  [author] 8 Aug, 2017 @ 11:34am
@gabelance1 Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it :p2cube: new test coming soon!
greatx3 8 Aug, 2017 @ 11:19am
What a great map. It took me quite a while to solve but I enjoyed every second of it. Keep up the great work.
Demon Arisen  [author] 20 Jul, 2017 @ 3:00pm
@Miami Mike Yours is the correct solution, theirs was unintended. Thanks for playing! How long did it take you?
Miami Mike 20 Jul, 2017 @ 2:39pm
Incidentally, I didn't use the solution shown in the YouTube video by lapicidas:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLgNhfb1eEU

My final solution consisted of bouncing vertically on the repulsion-gel-covered one portalable square on the big room floor, then shooting a portal below me that linked to the light bridge in the exit room, sending me flinging upward to the top of the exit room, then shooting a portal while at the top of my fling to land on the light bridge.
Miami Mike 20 Jul, 2017 @ 2:27pm
Awesome test! I may have just beaten the world's record for taking the longest time to solve this. At least I beat my own record for any Portal test.
