Outdoor Rink

Continuing my previous comment because of word limitations in Steam threads, even though the Snowfall DLC had two specific buildings that involved ice hockey (the Ice Hockey Arena and Ice Hockey Rink), they're limited to the Winter Theme Map and are sadly purely cosmetic. Though, I've somewhat lessened the pain by customizing the IHA asset and set it to Always Unlocked to appear in any map and then uploaded it into the Workshop so that people can subscribe to it.

I see. Too bad I'm not a good modmaker myself, as I only create custom maps rather than assets. Yeah, ice hockey is the one mechanic that seriously should be featured in C:S since Colossal Order, the company that developed this game, is from Finland and ice hockey is the number one sport in the country (association football/soccer doesn't count, at least in my point of view). Which is why I'm surprised CO didn't implement it in the game, especially with the release of the Campus DLC.

@osarek63. You have no idea - man did I ever struggle with the neutral zone and the overall dimensions of the rink. The texture is actually based off of information and images from a technical manual for North American rink specifications. Unfortunately between the images provided from said manual and my modelling skills at the time, you're right - I didn't quite nail it.

I think I will do another rink in the future - because I love, and miss, hockey too - And I think it's something that needs to be in the game.

But if you want it as a park building - grab the source files and make one. That's why I post them.

Follow the link above and drop everything except for the .blend file in your asset import directory - %LOCALAPPDATA%\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines. Then run the asset editor and select a suitable park building as your template.

Feel free to modify it and re-upload. I'm not concerned about credit. And if you do decide to and you get stuck - ask any questions, I'll help.

I would definitely love this asset more if it was created under the Park Asset category (not to be confused with Parklife DLC assets category) instead of a Unique Building. Considering how much I love ice hockey, I sure would love to build multiple copies of this asset in my boreal-themed cities. Oh, well. At least this is a very nice asset, even if the neutral zone dimensions are a little too tight for hockey rink standards.

If you go the template route with the loose files you won't need to change very much - and the options are pretty self explanatory. If you have any problems, give a shout.

The rink was orignally intended to be a sunken asset, the stands were added after I realized it was impossible to make it work like I wanted.

I might give it a try. Never done any of that, so I would need to figure out the asset editor first.

@... whoever you are.

I'm not going to upload a variation on this asset or create a new one - but what I have done is delete the bench geometry from this download and re-created it as a new asset - so you can use it locally. It uses the same template as the download above so it should behave the same way.

I've stripped all the props out of it and foregone painting the terrain. Here [drive.google.com] is the folder where you can download it.

Download the .crp file and put it in C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Assets for Windows.

For Mac, ~/library/Application support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/AddOns/assets.

If you want to reimport the asset and set stats as you like, download all the .png files and the two .fbx files and drop them into the C:S import folder. Then go to the asset editor in game and choose a template. I probably used the Statue of Industry.

Looks good, but it would be nice to have a version without the benches. My city has a lot of those. They are used as much during winter as they are during summer.
