Oh thank you. I really like this. I never liked the beastmen but I love this mod!

@Omega13 Oh yeah, thanks for pointing that out. It looks like other bears use a differen't diet setting, so I'll change it to match.
Omega13 15 Oct, 2017 @ 10:41pm
So after a little bit of observation, I've noticed that blackbears do not eat live plants and also do not hunt animals. So any time a blackbear spawns on a map, it eventually just gets malnutrition because it can't eat anything occurring in the wild and then it leaves.

@lilwhitemouse I do want to add that. It would be really helpful for people. I didn't know about the HugsLib options.
lilwhitemouse 23 Sep, 2017 @ 10:12am
I was looking at HugsLib, BTW, and it looks like it has an easy way to do options, if you wanted a way to let users select "Oh, I only want penguins, etc", or "I really hate penguins, everything else is great!"

(I think the division into classic and full works for you as is)

@Omega13 Hello Omega, ty for the suggestion. I'll see what I can do about that.

Hey any chance of a compatibility patch for Genetic Rim? Not asking for entirely new creatures (unless you feel ambitious) just for the appropriate Beasts of the Rim creatures to be legitimate targets for harvesting the generic gene types (bear, poultry, reptile, etc - for example gigantelopes are similar enough to muffalo that they could probably be used for muffalo DNA).

...having an easy way to do mod options (so you can select what you want) would be soooo handy.
lilwhitemouse 19 Jun, 2017 @ 6:24am
@Daniel_USA: PLASMA!

Is there any chance of a version with the Neanderthals but no beastmen? Or neanderthals only, as a stand-alone mod?
Omega13 18 Jun, 2017 @ 4:10pm
For those discussing the earthworms: I've had several colonies that have domesticated and farmed BotR giant worms with great success, They're incredibly versatile critters. They're like giant chickens that can also serve as expendable guard dogs. They breed fast, are easy to train, and don't eat much. If you need leather you can just let them hatch and slaughter the zillions of baby worms. Their leather isn't great for clothing but you can make some pretty cool pink furniture. They're also a great way to get rid of all your excess dead raiders - just refrigerate a room, toss all your deceased bandits in there, and let the worms do their thing. My only complaint is that sometimes they breed so fast my kitchen has trouble keeping up with them.

The text of the earthworm should say that in the future only one worm survives and his name is Jim. He finds a robotic space suit and becomes a space hero killing evil monsters in outerspace.
Dr. Quackers M.D. 18 Jun, 2017 @ 12:37pm
@THUNDERCRAFT. Its the future man! I diagree on all pionts its a game, and we dont have even close to all the factors that would make these animals be able to exist or not. For example we dont have atmospher make up of these worlds, detailed list of what the animals skins cells and shit are like, how light or heavy there bones are, maybe something in there diet helps them and there body process nutrients and food energy differently then when other things eat it. Like i said to mayt factor unaccounted for becasue its a game. For you to be this this big of an agg head over this is stupid amn come on.
Hey my team rules!  [author] 18 Jun, 2017 @ 11:28am
@Omega13 Yes exactly. The only difference is the removal of beastmen/humanoids. Everything else should be exactly the same. @lilwhitemouse The text for the earthworms mentions that they reproduce very quickly but thats all haha.
Omega13 18 Jun, 2017 @ 9:49am
So this is purely Beasts of the Rim without the gatormen, bearmen, neanderthals and such?
lilwhitemouse 18 Jun, 2017 @ 9:08am
LOL! I love it! Does the flavor text for earthworms have that tidbit of lore?
Daniel_USA 17 Jun, 2017 @ 7:51pm
lol those are the land earthworm variety which have thicker skin. :P
Hey my team rules!  [author] 17 Jun, 2017 @ 7:48pm
Thats the biggest problem with terraforming, all the extra dust and seed turns the pedosphere into a giant incubator for Earthworms.
Hey my team rules!  [author] 17 Jun, 2017 @ 7:45pm
Earthworms also live underground, but the problem is that there are so many that some of the weaker ones are forced to live on the surface :P
Daniel_USA 17 Jun, 2017 @ 7:22pm
no the squid has fluid tubes that make it stiff so it can walk upright. they acted like elephants but lived in the forest where it was cooler and they knocked over trees like elephants.

also the giant earthworms are surface dwellers in the game so why would I have to simulate digging?

To be honest I am also not a big fan of the surface worm either, I didn't know what it was for the longest. I thought it was a strange snake thing. Personally I would make it larger. My initial reaction to the worm was "yuk" I don't want to hunt those worms, why would I even tame them?

But then I started hunting them for their leather...
Thundercraft 17 Jun, 2017 @ 4:42pm
I realize that people do eat earthworms. But it's more a starvation food than anything else. (Earthworms are slimy and eat dirt and manure. Yuck!) And, yes, there is such a thing as Giant Earthworms and they can sometimes grow to enormous sizes (in Australia). However, they live underground. How can you simulate digging for Giant Earthworms in RimWorld?

If the "squid" in the documentary you mentioned is as large as an elephant and lives on land, then it must have a skeleton or something similar to support it. And that makes it far removed, evolutionarily, from modern squid by millions of years. It sounds more fantastic than many creatures from D&D.
Hey my team rules!  [author] 17 Jun, 2017 @ 3:58pm
Good points. I'll definitely tweak the stats on those animals you mentioned. One thing I would like eventually is a script to enable and disable animals, but that seems to be a ways out.
Daniel_USA 17 Jun, 2017 @ 3:55pm
the giant squid is based on actual ideas from a documentary on what would happen if humans left the planet. basically they are like elephants but look like that. (in the documentary) also the giant earthworm is an actual thing that people cook and eat.

i do agree that the larger animals should have higher stats though and be slower.

I would also like to see giant animals as pack animals even if they aren't rendered with a pack on them.
Thundercraft 17 Jun, 2017 @ 3:50pm
Also: Giantelope have a lifespan of 15, same as deer, despite being 50% of the size of an Elephant with a lifespan of 50? And Giantelope reach adulthood at age 1.25? That sounds like supernaturally fast growth. Shouldn't it take more like 2 years for adulthood?

Rabbuck have a size of 0.9, same as deer? To be fair, Russians have intensively bred a rabbit to be the size of a medium-large dog. But still...
Thundercraft 17 Jun, 2017 @ 3:50pm
Generally speaking, I like weird animals, esp. real-life ones, such as those that have gone extinct. And I like many in this collection. This is a cool mod, mad even cooler by your support of A Dog Said and the creation of this Classic version.

However, I do not think the Giant Earthworm fits RimWorld very well. (Also, who wants to eat it or the eggs? Yuck!) And the Megasquid? It's a cool animal, to be sure. But it really breaks my suspension of disbelief to see it 'lumbering through the forest', esp. at human speed. It should be a strictly aquatic animal. It would be crushed under its own weight.
Hey my team rules!  [author] 17 Jun, 2017 @ 2:51pm
@Daniel_USA I went ahead and made another compatibility patch for A Dog Said, this one is for BOTR Classic: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=949227309 Use this patch instead of the original so that there aren't any errors.
Daniel_USA 17 Jun, 2017 @ 2:04pm
I was waiting on this, will there be a dog says patch or do you have it included with the download?
Dr. Quackers M.D. 17 Jun, 2017 @ 12:26pm
FUCK YA!!!!
