The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the engineer turned a teleporter shell and put them on his feet HAHA :D

really neat idea, it certainly does seem reminiscent of the R&C series, but the first thing I found myself thinking of was them looking sort of like Fox Mcloud's boots (or feet, if you subscribe to the rumours of amputated legs)
