I have been making a few XML edits to tweak the game a bit. I am currently working on a minor edit that will set the default participation mode to auto resolve battles. I have located the file:

Endless Legend\Public\Simulation\BattleTargetingStrategy.xml

which contains the default setting for "Choose your global strategy", but I cannot for the life of me find the file containing the default for participation mode. I suspect it is in the Simulation folder. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.
