Mod adjustment for Naval Combat (ship production)
Land combat in this game is wonderful, I'm big fan of how the game works to incorperate diverse armies and tactics. Mechanics such as ramp cost motivate you to produce mixed armies. The diffrent forms of infantry and cavalry (tanks later), make the rock-paper-scissors mechanic of the game less obvious and less of a bore. But I always felt that sea combat didnt get the same love in the original game design.

Playing games with friends, we will rush but usually enjoy stetching games out for well over 45min up to maybe an hour or so. Epic land battles, and meanuvering around the battlefield will occur. Yet we also enjoy playing sea maps; maps like east indies, we will place garrisons on our islands and have fun enacting battles over these strongholds. But with these maps, sea power is important. Ships are used to block reinforcements and to seperate peoples' empires. Yet when sea conflict takes place, the joy we experiance in land combat isnt there...

Too often I feel that while land armies involve mobility and depth of thought, naval combat is more so the simplistic rock-paper-scissors match where you just send masses of ships at each other; you build the ships, blob them, and then go (granted that bomb ketch/carriers are protected in the rear). Unlike ground units, which should be able to be readily replaced when lost, i feel that warships should have more of a feel of permance to them. While large fleets of ships are not outlandish, I think there is creedence to wanting to play with naval combat having a diffrent emphasis.

Would it possible that there is a mod that allows for the cost of ships to be higher than in the base game, and that there would be a slower build time with it? I feel that more expensive ships, and having to take more time to build ships, would bring the player to feel more of an impact when they see a fleet of ships or lose ships of their own.

By raising the the cost I feel it would reduce the spamming of ships into the sea for combat but still allow nations to produce large fleets if needed. The increased build time would do much to limit spamming and place importance on maintaining your fleet. Being more invested in your fleet construction, you would be more prone to ensuring its survival. As is, I am under the impression that you build ships and when they engage in combat you just que up production and set a waypoint.

If there ary any mods that currently do this, let me know. Otherwise, I look forward to possibly seeing this in the future.

I can see where you're coming from. The AI tends to build up a navy and sends it to a random city behind your borders. I feel like the AI wants to keep a part of your army to fight it, but it does seem to get annoying after a while when it's already "razed" the city. When you do send an army over to where the AI's navy is to protect the city, the AI'll spam more ships to that one spot instead of not sending ships to that one city. I also feel like the ships can be built kind of quickly during the game, you just need to have anywhere from 1-5 docks building up a navy and setting a waypoint on the map and your ships will go there in the back of the current sea map. It's kind of like "Spam, Spam, Spam some more." It just gets annoying when an AI does it. I kind of feel like the navy is still an important part of the gme. The ships can be a bit more expensive and can take a little longer to build to help stop some spamming in the early game. I don't think that it should take the docks a ton of time just to build a ship(s) (If you have built a ton of units from a certain building, then it'll take a little longer for the building to produce those specific units. The less units that you have from a certain building, the faser that the building will build them). I guess it really depends on how you use your navy during the game. I get some satisfaction from destroying a large army, but sometimes it feels like spamming of certain units will/could change the battle. It also depends on what kind of units that one person/AI is using.

I agree very much. The issue I take is from my experiances with naval combat. Would love to see a mod or something else to add, again i use the term "permanace" to navy ships

Yeah. Help to at least stop some of the spamming.

as someone not familiar with the process to do that, I am at a loss when it comes to changing the information.
