Easy(?) mod idea: District Tiles from Villages, Ruins, and Temples
Don't you hate it when your city is constrained by ruins and villages? Why isn't there is a mod where special district tiles can be placed upon these obstructions? Similar to the strategic/luxury intensifiers. Prolly even use the model.

Villages can give, like, extra bonus population plus approval, intact ruins can give science and industry, while temple ruins can give science and influence.

I would love to see something like this.

Your not suppose to settle next to a ruins or pop hut if you do expect this.

Le sigh.

Yes, I know this, and I try to avoid it of course, but sometimes geography and the shapes of regions forces me into the larger of two tiny corners cut in half by a strip of land 1 hex wide with a ruin or a village in the middle. It's extremely annoying.

I'm not asking that the winter mechanic be abolished, that's dumb and runs contrary to the theme of the game, but I have cities to plan out, damnit, and I can't just burn down the local Bos villages if they're in my way... and they're useless trash people because I'm Broken Lords! I just want to make them not totally suck, sometimes, and not inspire a genocidal fury.

Is that so wrong?

I'm with you, TrollofReason. Just yesterday I was planning to found a port city for the Broken Lords quest, and thought I'd found the perfect spot.

...Right up until I noticed some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ruins insolently squatting on the exact hex where I was going to drop it. Rage.

There should definitely be some way to integrate villages and ruins into the bourgh streets, whether it's an update from the devs or a mod. No idea how one would go about doing that though.

The thing is, I think this would be an easy mod because most of the leg work has been done since the Shifters DLC, and the pearl-based districts over extractors. Unless it's something else entirely... I'm not gifted at coding, not that coding is a gift, per say, but to ask someone else if it's possible while I'm teaching myself would prolly be faster to achieve my goal in this regard.

i don't know but when i first got the game i suggested this as a potential mod on amplitude forums. it didn't seem to get many comments or results.
still think that it would make sense to be able to build an assimulated city type district over villages if they are one of the 3 you have taken into your faction, or even just a one per city rebuilt ruins.
i think some of the issue was with quests for minor faction villages and the fact that all players can loot a ruins once (or twice if you go far enough into the tech tree) so making them part of a city could complicate or break things.

I'm admittedly not a very experienced modder but from what I have seen of this code I'm guessing that this isn't actually that easy of a thing to do as a mod. Mostly the game handles extractors and districts/villages differently. I haven't looked at that code too careful (so I'm not sure how the game treats these) and I do think this is probably possible (maybe even as a mod) but it doesn't strike me as something straightfoward (like increases market caps, allowing regular research of hidden techs, changing heros, making new units, etc). Worst case this would require understanding the games code well enough to change how the game handles some things (villages in particular).

It's even possible that it would be easier to change map generation to avoid generating maps with width 1 bottlenecks (as the situation you described does happen often enough and is extremely annoying!).

That said the impression I get from modders I have talked with about mods makes me think that either of these is beyond the scope of what the people currently working on those types of things know how to do (at least for now) and this might be a better request for the devs.

If I ever get comfortable enough with their code to try to write my own parts (rather than just editing what already exists) I might eventually give this a try.. but that day may not come (in fact it probably won't, if I'm being realistic).

All of that being said, that really is only my impression at the moment and I have certainly been wrong before and will be again.
