That being said, you could just add static models for each new race and make sure they encompass the base human one so you can't see it, only issue there is they wouldn't make use of character sliders so will all look the same, unless you made a whole bunch of unique models and relied more on accessories, clothing and skin/fur tones to create variation.
TLDR: Kinda possible, but a LOT of work.
At the moment I think only myself and one other has actually done any custom portrait artwork. It's quite complicated and required good knowledge of facial rigs, SSS-based PBR skin shaders, morph targets, the genes system (especially if adding new genes like what I did for LOTR orc/elf ears) etc. Unless more people are willing to learn all this stuff I can't see it happened unfortunately. Perhaps it's something you could work on yourself if you get a tower down the line though! I'm always around on the modding discord to lend assistance in any part of 3D art related to the game, as well as anything to do with map editing, genes, portrait modifiers etc.
