Nothing against free to play but I don't think that your ideas are good because it would require all the time at least 2 people that bought the game and are willing to command. It also throws balance out with free to play players not being able to purchase any other lifeforms and last I would feel very mad as such a player and probably uninstall after the first round ended.

Free to play should not give players any disadvantages over those who bought the game.
