Model can't be mapped to rig because of Frames
Hello there,

I managed to get a new 3d asset into the content editor, texture and material are working, and in Maya I used the Rig-Ships.dae provided to make the rig.

My unit is a machine, gyrocopter-like, so it's not so great to use the Ship rig but it's the best available.

I am having only one issue, when I try to link the rig-ship from the content editor dependancy to my newly imported model, I get the following:

Model can't be mapped to rig because of Frames:
Pole_2_End, Pole_1_End, Pole_3_End, Large_Sail_Tip

I can see in the Frames pane of the content editor that those are listed and where their position are on the imported model, but in Maya I only have the bones.

Any tip about this issue? I am beginner in 3d so I am pretty sure I may have done something wrong, but any tip would be super welcome.

Well actually that's something you should had mention in the guide but certain bones from the different template you provided (like FK etc) simply cause errors and should not be rigged at all in Maya (or I missed this crucial info mb)- it did make me lose a few hours to figure this out huhu but it's okay ;)

After 2nd thought (and because I feel guilty for giving some debug work to your animator xd), it's still valuable if your animator can fix the template because the way I solved it is still kinda hackish; I am simply not rigging bones which might be used in the animation, which means at the end of the day a less polished animation.
Eventually if you go for age of wonders IV having the boat template fixed will still be a good thing ;)

Here's some info from our animation team.

Hey Ayalin,

Bones that have the "_End" suffix should not have skinning nor animation. This is because these bones are only used to set up the orientation of bones in the rig and besides this they have no practical purpose.
Usually you'd skin the model to the FK bones (or the normal arm bones for example) and only use the IK arm bones to set up IK-systems for your rig in whatever 3D software package you may be using.
I hope this answers your question. If you have other questions please ask them.
