Just by looking through some random encounters in the editor, I can find examples of encounters that could have certain traits, but don't.
-The "Westwend Tavern" card rewards fame but doesn't have the fame gain trait.
-The "Wishing Well" card can dish out a wound card but doesn't have the wound trait.
-The "Pickpocket" card can reward a blessing but doesn't have the blessing trait.
Going off of these examples and the fact that traits are primarily used to help players quickly find the rights cards for whatever deck they're building, you should add traits that highlight the most important aspects of the encounter. Personally I would say the possibility to get gold/food/fame/wounds from an encounter doesn't immediately warrant the trait, but if the gain is likely to happen or in large enough amounts then it is justified. Depending on how complex your encounter is, you might have 8+ traits that apply, which is when it's time to prioritize traits or streamline the encounter
Those are my thoughts on the matter. I would love to hear what the devs have to say on this topic though. :)
