Community view about uploading stuff of other people
My question is, can i upload a mod/hakpack of another people even if i put his credit name here at steam?!
There are some old OLD forgotten mods that are RLY amazing but i doubt they will see the day here at steam workshop. =/

Best practice is to ask the author. After that, put a request on the Vault forums to see if you get a response (after a reasonable amount of time...I suggest several weeks). After that...you should probably still wait until you get permission. Unless you have specific permission to post some else's work, you should leave it be.

You can always make a new discussion post or guide or something here and just include links to where you can download them normally (Vault, Nexus, etc.). Probably get a lot of hits on a "great modules/adventures for NWN" guide.

at this point il just credit the guys that did the work and put it here, or we will never see in a near future 1/100 of amazing mods at nwnvault.
And the author IF he appears can always say something and ask to remove...I know that it isnt the best move...But its just pitifull the amount of mods right now on workshop, and for me some mods are THE reason some people (me included) still play this game.

Most of the authors of 15 years ago can't be contacted. If they left a contact address at all very often it doesn't exist anymore. People have moved to other projects.

Upload, credit author - lets get back to playing
Just do it!!

Credit author
post a link to original source
post last known author's contacts
if author shows up and asks you - remove your upload or transfer ownership. Or add as a collaborator.

Just be sure to check that content works fine in EE, fix it if needed and you have the skills for it, don't clutter the workshop with unworking stuff.

Caution - see this discussion[forum.neverwintervault.org]. While it's not Vault policy, it gives you a reasonable idea of where authors are coming from, and that isn't favourable to bulk posting on Steam.

As a matter of courtesy, bear in mind that Steam is very controversial for some people, who will not thank you for posting their hard work here without permission.

I think the main issue here is at least *making an effort* to be respectful of the author's wishes. In the case of someone who a) uploaded their work to the Vault, b) gave no indication that they objected to it being re-published elsewhere, and c) has clearly left the community and cannot be reached for permission, it's more difficult to object.

The works that were recently removed, however, included a high-profile trilogy whose author had prominently announced plans on the Beamdog forums to update and re-release himself. In this case the uploader clearly hadn't even tried to make a good faith effort to contact him for permission. Had someone done that to me, I would have been furious to say the least.

Make a reasonable effort to contact the author (few weeks my ass, 2-3 days at most) and if they don't respond, do it. If the author doesn't like it, then that's his/her problem to deal with at that point.

I'd say don't unless you have explicit permission by the author or it's stated at the vault you can.
There is no reason at all to upload somebody else's work here as the files from the vault work just fine.
If you wish to promote such content you can easily do that witout uploading to the workshop.

Also, please note the pinned thread at the top of this forum.

Workshop is better than the vault. If the author isn't going to upload it then someone else should.

@Wyzegy To distribute stuff created by someone you have to get the author's permission.

Hey, thread asks for my view and I gave it. Ryuu pretty much covers it.
Would be nice if nwvault could somehow be linked to a game, maybe not using Steam Workshop, since some people are using standalone version. But for dependencies we might have no other good choice than uploading here or including them in workshop entry.
