Is there a way to use custom models for the Map Editor/Workshop?
I'm guessing no, but this would be fun if so.

I've seen some maps that look like they at least modify textures.

Also, how do I search for objects?

You are given a library of retexturable simples that you can use to make other objects. You cannot import anything. All the levels you see on the workshop are made using only the assets that come with the level editor.

Ok another question. How the ass do I zoom in? The editor uses what I HATE, this stupid "farther you zoom in the slower the camera gets" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that prevents me from getting close enough to even remotely detail anything. the closest i can get the car is like 1/20th of the screen, great. Totally. Guessing I need to reset the camera or something but I'm not sure how to do that, and this editor is useless to me if I can't actually look at what i'm editing less than 500 feet away

Oh. I have to use the arrow keys. the arrow keys, of all things. It's not even entirely mouse controllable lmfao

what exactly is this "simple" thing, and can I use it for a road?

tried using a simple quad spline to make the roads since i wanted flat roads.. the hitbox of the quad literally jutted out like a foot above the model, so that's good and dead

yeah nevermind I'll just not make a map sorry thanks. Unless there's literally a hitbox editor too.

I'd highly recommend joining the discord, where we have an #editor channel where you can get much quicker responses to more specific questions: https://discord.gg/distance

No you can't import anything. Everything you see on the workshop has been made with the objects and textures already available in the editor.

Any object in the Simples folder has a texture selection property on it. You can't load external textures, but there are a very large number of pre-existing textures you can select from to apply to any of those objects.

In the Library tab (default left side, top), at the very top, there is a search bar. Type in there and hit enter.

It can be entirely mouse controlled if you switch to Control Scheme B, which is generally most people's preferred scheme. In the Editor tab (default right side, top), you can select Control Scheme B, right above the various sliders.

With Control Scheme B, you can hold middle mouse to pan the camera, hold right mouse to rotate, left click to select an object, and middle click with an object selected to zoom in on that object directly (as well as scroll wheel for regular zoom).

Simples are just simple shapes (cube, pyramid, sphere, etc.) with a lot of properties on them for you to be able to tweak. You can combine a bunch of simples to build up your own custom objects, like what you see in some of the more popular workshop maps.

In the Simples/SplinesHD folder, you can find the SplineRoadSimple and SplineTape objects. SplineRoadSimple is a regular road, and SplineTape can be used as a sideless road. These are the same as regular roads, but they also have all the added properties of Simples objects.

You were just using the wrong object. The objects in the Simples/Splines folder are for decoration (creating other objects by combining a bunch of Simples into one group of objects), and the objects in the Simples/SplinesHD folder are for driving on. If you wanted to use a quad as a road, then you would use the SplineQuadTube object in the Simples/SplinesHD folder, rather than the regular SplineQuad in the Simples/Splines folder.

Again, I highly recommend joining the discord linked above if you have editor questions, since they can be answered much more quickly there.
