Although, change the way the unit shoot could help I think, this require 3Ds Max. Basically make the unit shoot straight not up. This would make the arrow to hit the obstacle.
Is an idea I never tried ;)
I am completely open to modding btw, I should have stated.
What I need is a way to lay something between units that makes them undetectable to one another. Think corridors of a dungeon, say two corridors running in parallel side by side, separated by air (space, blackness, wall, anything), and if a blue unit is in one corridor, and a red unit is in the other, they cannot affect eachother (cant shoot eachother, maybe even cant "LOS" eachother).
Now later when those 2 corridors merge up ahead into one room, they will see eachother and act accordingly.
I half-way accomplished this by painting "black rock" (basically a 'cliff' terrain that is negative space black) in between the corridors. It looks great (just like how you'd draw an old D&D map) and handles units movement exactly as expected, they cannot touch eachother or walk across to one anothers corridor. But sadly as mentioned they see eachother and start lobbing projectiles back and forth.
If i could just get a terrain, or invisible wall, or a way to mod some object/obstacle that (a) prevents ranged attacks/LOS and (b) is not a visual 100 foot tall cliff that you cant actually see your units behind to manipulate them.... I'd be off to the races!
Does anything block LOS or ranged attacks?
