FIRST TIMER at MODDING --- Could anyone help answer my 5 quick KOTOR2 questions?
I discovered 5 really cool mods that according to some research of my own, shouldnt cause issues with one of the 5, the TSLRCM. Ive also read that you dont want to do more than 5 because it can cause system crash, so I am hoping it will work. However, I am not tech savy at all, and I am afraid of cutting and pasting code into the game file as some mods tell me to do and half-heartedly explain to a novice such as I what is beyond my understanding and skill-set. I
fear that i could ruin the game somehow.

I have 5 questions for you guys here in the Steam Community if you'd be so kind:

1) I've read some MODs that suggest I dont have to cut and paste in the game file but can merely hit "SUSCRIBE" in the MOD page of the Workshop. Is installing a MOD really as simple as hitting Suscribe? That seems alot easier!

2) Before i discoved TSLRCM, i already had 2 or 3 mods that i suscribed to after I started my game, but never really noticed them...how do i know if they were actually installed - is there a place within Steam that shows successfully installed MODDed content? Perhaps it didnt successfully install because i had already started the game before "suscribing" to workshop mods, which would force me to uninstall?.... which begs me to ask...

3)... must I uninstall a game first for Mods to take effect? and...

4) ...If all it takes to install the MODS is to uninstall the game and re-install it, will I lose my saved game data? or does Steam save it? I'm like 2/3rds through my game and im wondering if its worth the risk to just uninstall it now since there's no telling anyone here will respond soon...

5) If i can save my game data, how do i do that?

First of all, the 5 mod thing is not true.

1) It's that easy for most mods (especially reskins and other basic things), make sure you read the description about possible conflict situations and read the comments (to see if people are having issues). There's some mods that ignore possible conflicts.
Things can get trickier if you mix things with non Steam mods and not know the consequences.

2) If you go to "browse the workshop" you should see your avatar on the right, below it is a dropdown "your files" with "subscribed items" to get you a list of the mods that you've subscribed to.

3) Not sure what you mean, I don't think you can subscribe to mods without having the game installed. I'd think that that is a way to get rid of mods, but that might not even be true.

4) I don't know about the cloud saves, I don't use that option (you can turn it on or off). But traditionally, yes, uninstall and it's all gone. I transferred my mods and saves many times from many hard drives to new ones, it's just folder content (again, assuming you're not using the cloud save option). You don't need to backup Steam mods, just keep a list of which you had and resubscribe.
Non cloud saves should be at:
[drive]:\[steamfolder]\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Knights of the Old Republic II\saves

Feel free to ask more questions

Hey Effix!

Thanks so much for your quick response! I decided to just try a new game and the mod where you get sabers on peragus (first mission) worked to my amazement! I am currently confirming if the mod i also suscribed to where you can custsomize your hilts based upon the jedi academy game is in effect or not now that i all of a sudden have lightsabers...

So all of this makes me think that I may have had the previous mods on my previous game where i am 2/3s or the way through...

I do have another question for you: because i see that at least 1 mod ( start Peragus with lightsabers) is in effect with my new game i started, then I presume the other mods are in effect too such as TSLRCM; does this mean things like TSLRCM would be in effect with other game where i am 2/3s of way completed as well?

Thanks,

Sawyer

You can subscribe to mods without the game installed (though you do still at least need to own a copy of the game on Steam) and you don't need to unsubscribe/subscribe between installations. Steam will include all your currently subscribed Workshop games at installation time. If you unsubscribe from a Workshop item, it will be removed from installed copies of the game (usually) straight away as well (there are times where a restart of the Steam client is necessary to make changes to Workshop subscriptions take effect).

As to your question about TSLRCM being in effect with your 2/3rds completed game, the answer is "yes", unfortunately. I say unfortunately because TSLRCM is designed to be active from the start of the playthrough and adding it on part way through the game can cause issues (otherwise I consider it an absolutely necessary mod). Your new game will be fine, but you'll need to remember to unsubscribe from TSLRCM if you want to go back to any non-TSLRCM saves.

The 5 mods thing WAS true, but it got fixed ages ago.
And yes, don't run TSLRCM on partially completed savegames. You WILL get stuck.
