[Request] Logbook entries say who a ships commander was
Seriously annoyed with losing trade ships at this point with the logbook saying only that one was killed and not which damned trade ship it was, it's fine if you only have one assigned to a station coz an upkeep mission will appear but who the hell has only one trade ship assigned to a station.

Please gods of modding give me a mod that simply includes the station my now dead ship was assigned to in the logbook entry.

I agree with you, its one of a many stupid thing left by egosoft. Logbook is awful.
Try maybe "Logbook Combat Extensions" from nexus.
I personally solved it by renaming all my trade ships (just add station abbreviation to the ship's name) ...

yeh i downloaded a renaming mod a couple days ago trying to get around it but it was all about expressions ect and tbh all i wanted was a simple mod that adds the station name or something automatically when assigning a ship.
A logbook mod that gave more detail would alleviate alot of typing ect so i do hope you make one good luck.

I checked, and upset even more. I doubt there will be solution because at the moment when object destroyed and notification goes to logbook, link to the commander have already cleared. ... anyway, i have another solution (I will add it to my mod)

If the reference to the commander is gone before the log is triggered then theres not really anything that can fix it, that sucks damn you egosoft :(

if you are talking about my Mod you just have to get the (seperate) Customisation Mod* ( here again the Link[www.dropbox.com]) and edit the File t/0001.xml inside it. Then you have two Options:
Option 1:
Put some default Name for new Ships here:
<t id="4" comment="Name Template for Big Ships (will be applied when built, leave empty to not use this)"></t>
like this:
<t id="4" comment="Name Template for Big Ships (will be applied when built, leave empty to not use this)">/type of $sup.name</t>
and all new Ships will be Renamed to something like "Rahanas (Container) of Construction Shop I"

Option 2:
define a custom Shortcut Name:
replace the
<t id="0">/UD1</t> <t id="1">User Defined 1</t>
with something like
<t id="0">qqq</t> <t id="1">/type of $sup.name</t>
and then you can just name all Station-Assigned Ships "qqq" (from t id 0) and it will magically turn into "Rahanas (Container) of Construction Shop I" or similiar, depending on Ship or Commander ;) (whatever expression/name is defined in t id 1)

* Its not available via Workshop intentionally because the Workshop would overwrite/revert "broken files" (aka your customized Stuff) when it notices you changed it.


PS sorry if its an exhaustive Extension, but i wanted to create a Renaming Framework which covers many possible use cases and i went a bit overboard with adding more and more stuff - because it was trivial to add more ;)

oh i definately wasnt complaining about your mod but as a person who has never used expressions before and simply looking foar an easier renaming method it seemed....daunting lol.
Quick question about that extension you posted but it says in that line you mentioned that the ship will be named when built not named when assigned so is there a way to name a ship with the station name added when i assign it to that station?
Sorry if i'm getting confused but you build at a shipyard not the station you want it to work for so how would it know?

i dont have anything for automatically renaming Ships on Assignment, but the renaming on build is imo good enough because the Name is updated on Assignment ;) (so upon completion the Ship is called "Rahanas (Container) of Albion Skunk" for example since the Player Ship is the default Commander for freshly built Stuff, and when you assign it to a Station the Name is updated accordingly to "Rahanas (Container) of Construction Shop I" for example ;)
