New mod idea (maybe?)
I just thought of something that would be pretty nice following the introduction of weapon mods thanks to Egosoft. I was thinking it would be pretty awesome if we could combine weapon mods together to make one good one instead of scrapping every single one just to get a piece (which you need 5 of) to make one more of the same grade, which may be even worse than the ones that got scrapped to make it.

Now, I don't know if this is at all possible but it would be pretty cool to me to see something like this.

afaik not possible since there is no way to acess or modify mod properties. at least it was this way the last time i checked. also simply merging all good mods would result in über-mods throwing the balancing completely out of the window.

It would be possible to reduce the number of weapon mod parts to combine to make a weapon mod, or to have weapon mods of a particular grade dismantle to parts of a higher grade. Don't know what high-grade weapon mods would then dismantle to, though.

Is there a way to make it so that the player can choose what weapons the crafted mods are for? Cause when I've got the heavy laser, I don't want to craft mods for the mining laser. I just want some actual control on what weapon mods that are crafted.

Oof. Haven't seen that anywhere modders can touch. Randomization's probably done code-side, in the C++ stuff.

Just thought of something related to my original topic, what about the possiblity of mods for the Skunk's engine and shields? Or is that a no go similar to being unable to pick weapon specific mods?
