Bridges in deep water

I was trying to bridge between different islands and it quickly became apparent that I would be unable to build bridges in deep water, anyone else interested in the same idea? Or know of any tricks to be be able to continue settlements on different islands?

I mean transport ships are a thing, but I think the aesthetics possible with building bridges in water would be cool. Draw bridges are already in the game for moats, so maybe we could have some sort of draw bridge extension? Anyone have any other cool ideas for this?
