Someone already mentioned this, and i would think this would make a good mod. Look for original post here about the gold and silver mines idea:

This is how it would work in theory:

#1. Peasants go mine silver or ore.
#2. A building that allows money to be pressed into coins. Maybe it would require wood or something else to operate? Of course, it would require the ore from silver or gold mines...or even both depending on what is being pressed and minted.

NOTE: the building press for money could make different type of coins or even gold bars, etc..

Result: This method would earn more money, and have a realistic way the game shows how everyone gets money.
