Bah, who needs lore and reasoning when you could have a cute lil' chryssy?
It could fit into the lore. They could find someone experimenting on Chrysallids trying to make them more intelligent. They find one with some kind of mental implant chip that is a one of a kind prototype. Boom, new squad member.
Chrysallids can be controlled psionically. A byproduct of the attempts to alter them into food animals.
"So, Verge....about the new guy...agent Fssshrrgh, was it?"
"'rrrGH'. More stress on the last syllable. What about him?"
"He's just a little...different, do you think? His limbs are...pointier?...than I would have expected."
"Some hybrid have claws. I thought we were past prejudice at this point. Was I wrong?"
"You didn't have to shake his hand. Or get the stitches and bandages as a result. And he ate my lunch yesterday."
"Mmm...if I recall correctly, he ate EVERYONE's lunch yesterday. The bags too."
"Not to mention a good part of the fridge. Hellofa metabolism."
"His headpiece though is quite fine, even by sectoid standards."
"It is one snazzy hat, isn't it?"
The only Chrysallid infiltration agent bred by Avent. For some reason fancy headgear enhances his powers of disguise.
This whole concept is amazing, ngl
