Mod Load order and Mod Merging
Hello everybody. Absolutely love the mods for this game. Here is my current load out and have some questions about load order and merging mods. Here is my current list of mods in order running on my machine with no conflicts:

Better Drop Rates - using this to try and eliminate most of the whites and get less greens. Tried other drop rate mods and they are way too OP with unique and legendary items dropping far too often. Like 29 legendary items dropping for a new character before making it to the first town too often! This one has a slightly better drop rate than vanilla IMHO so far.
Better Loot Colors - self explanatory.
No Identify - all items drop identified.
Wand Homing Projectiles - turns all wand projectiles into homing missiles.
More Pet Skins - adds tons of new skins for pets.
Variant Classes - adds new classes to player character selection.
Synergies Mod - Mod pack with tons of combined improvements.
FEP+ - Far East Pack 1&2 that's more compatible with above mod.
TorchFull Final - Mod Pack with tons of combined mods not included in Synergies.
Unearthed Arcana - adds original content left out by the original dev's of TL2 and enhances the game with several other features cut from the vanilla game.

I would also like to include the Enhanced Retex packs 1&2, but have reached my 10 mod limit with the above, so since these were only cosmetic improvements I left them out. I want to try and figure out a way to combine some of the above packs to free up space to have these, but I know nothing about merging or modding so if anyone has any suggestions on how to learn and which ones above to combine that would be a great help.

As far as the current load goes, right now everything works without crashing the game or doing anything that keeps it from loading. I have seen a few strange quirks, but am unsure if these are conflicts with the mods, the mod order or by design from the mod creator. Here are a few of them:

1. Character selection screen doesn't show all the classes that it should for all the mods. There are a few missing from the bigger mod packs like synergies and torchfull final. Maybe they are overwriting each other? I have no idea since I know nothing about how the mods work with each other, just that they seem to work with a few drawbacks like this.

2. During the pet selection process the menu is no longer optimized, I still see all or nearly all ( I noticed a few pets disappear and reappear or get replaced if I change the load order or remove some of the mods from the list, I assume some of them are getting overwritten by one or other of the mods) of the pets I am supposed to see, but instead of filling the entire selection screen it creates the pet characters in three lines at the top which slightly protrude out of its containment within the box on the right of it. It just adds extra pages to scroll through instead of using the whole box. Not a deal-breaker, I can live with it, just slightly annoying.

3. While playing any character class during the game, the pet will sometimes (1/10 times) hit an enemy and that enemy splits(spawns?) several other enemies of the exact same type on screen. Like it cast some sort of multiply spell. Now if this only happens with normal mobs ok, I can deal. If it starts to happen with Elites/Champions/Bosses... well that could be a problem. Unsure if this is a bug or glitch, or if this is by design from one of the mods... no idea

4. Loot colors are off or the wrong color on some items like mana and health potions. The potions in particular appear light yellow instead of the Blue and Red respectively that I feel they should, hence the Better Loot Color mod. I would rather not have to have a mod to correct this taking up a precious space in the 10 mod limit, but as I don't know how to keep it from happening, I just added a mod to fix it and move on.

5. Last but not least, one of the mods adds a bunch of items with "alloy or tools" in the name. I think its an item type by itself or an affix of some kind. because there appears to be an alloy or tool version of every kind of weapon (possibly armor as well) in the game. Regardless, they appear in drops, vendors that sell weapons/armor and quest rewards. They are prevalent in every one of those cases, especially the vendors. The skins for these items is a horrid looking black color, sometimes with orange highlights. They look nothing like any of the items found throughout the rest of the game and overall just detract from the aesthetics of the game itself. Between the large number of them that appear (75% or greater) versus all other items (vanilla or added through mods), the fact that they look terrible, haven't found or seen a single one with any enchantment or base stat that is better than whats already available without them. I don't know which mod is adding them, or how to get rid of them even if I did. Short of removing the mod, which I doubt I would do because of all the other things it adds or enhances in the game. It just, it breaks the aesthetic and beauty of the game. I wouldn't even care so much about them if they just didn't show up in everything, all over the place. Sigh...

So hopefully one of you great fellow gamer's and modder's can take a look at my load order and help me with refining it if necessary. Maybe somebody can help me address the issues I raised by fixing them for me or point me to where I can learn how to do it myself. I also wish someone would shed some light on knowing which mods to merge, and merging them to free up at least two or more spots to include the Retex 1&2 mods since everyone seems to enjoy the cosmetic enhancements they provide.

Thanks in advance for anybody who helps me, I really appreciate it greatly.

For a community that can answer deeper questions: creating an account at the Torch Modders website then clicking their Logo on the right side within their Forums will lead to their Discord.

If you have issues getting your account approved then I'll simply ask the Admin to verify the account. We've had to deal with Bot Accounts so it's a safety measure.

For a helpful Tool that can make Mod Merging much easier, refer to this:
https://www.moddrop.com/app/

= = =

As for the Alloy Items that are undesired- it may be from either Torchfull or Arcana (I'm not sure).

Draco's Mod Pack (the one with the Red Dragon Logo) may be of more interest than Torchfull.

Variant Pets may be of more interest than More Pet Skins.

= = =

The smaller mods can easily be merged with ModDrop.

= = =

Synergies causes Foes (with an Affix) to split into multiple copies. It's a feature.

Character Packs will override any below. This is designed to reduce mod conflicts.
This is important to remember when merging mods. First mod will be overridden by the next.

I have Moddrop, I couldn't figure out how to merge files with it and couldn't find a resource with instructions on how to do it. I did download GUTS and was able to successfully merge the Better Loot Colors and No Identify mods together (They dont edit the same files, so was the easiest two to try first). Tested it out and it works loaded with the others in the list without issue. So that's one space free again now. Yay... Hopefully I can successfully combine a couple more in order to free up at least one or more spots to be able to add the Retex mods back in. I am nervous about trying to manually change data with an editor, so didn't want to touch the mod packs or bigger mods. Just seems like too much of a challenge at the moment, barely fumbling my way through the merging process took a few hours. Didn't understand the process even with the instructions till my third try. Finally got it though.

I will have to check out Draco's I have not heard of it. Why do you think it would be of more interest? Any specific things it offers that TorchFull doesn't?

The Variant Pets mod would be redundant (made a comprehensive list on paper of what the other mods contained) as everything in it is included in the other mods I already have, maybe with the exception of one pet. The More Skins mod allows me to customize the pets I already have. I think I have like a total of 450 pet choices if you count all the variations for each pet as is. So having more pets isn't really an issue. Just some (Maybe two or three) getting over-ridden or conflicting because of others in a different mod, they must use the same file or something. I can live with that as long as the game doesn't crash, its just slightly annoying.

You are right about remembering that higher mods override lower ones. That's why I asked for advice on my load order from people with more experience. Any advice on that?

If the original list above reflects the current Load Order then that's close to what is recommended.

Experience, Points, Camera, Drop Rates tend to be best on top.

Pets, Items and other miscellaneous features are usually best in the middle.

Character Packs are usually placed here.

Big Adventure and Overhaul mods tend to go here.

Small Dungeon Challenges are placed either here or above the bigger adventure mods.

= = =

Variant Classes is usually better placed above Synergies.

Synergies is usually good towards the bottom although some Players may place it high.

FEP+ is probably best below the other Class Pack mods including Synergies.

TorchFull or Dracos is probably best placed towards the bottom unless all their features are desired.

Unearthed Arcana has a history of being fragile with other mods so this may be the best place.

Checked out Draco's mod pack, the one with the logo you mentioned. Based on what he lists as the included mods it didn't seem to do most of the things Torchfull Final does. It also increases the difficulty by quite a bit to nearly impossible based on comments from others using it. (One user even said that it caused his character to have nearly 100% fumble when fighting bosses and had to rely on NPC's and Pets to survive). So that is definitely not what I am looking for.

Ok Thanks, glad I was at least close, and just have to shift around one or two. I will play around with it and see if it changes any of the issues I mentioned earlier, except the mob multiplier thing which as you pointed out is apparently a feature of one of the mods. Thank you for your advice. I really sincerely appreciate it.

You're Welcome and here's a list of other mods that may interest you whether for potential merging or to be used within the Load Order itself:

Placement is ultimately done for compatibility and features according to what the Player discovers during testing of the Load Orders.

Hey, do you have a link for the Torch modders website you are referring to? When I try to go to torchmodders.com it gives an error saying the host has suspended the website account. Any ideas?

I had some questions about a few things I wanted to ask. Namely regarding editing the game files to make your own mods. I want to try and add more names to the randomization process for the pet creation screen, but have no idea where to start looking or how to do it even if I knew what file or folder it was in. I think it would be neat if that random naming feature was available for the players character as well. Again, have no idea how to do it, so looking for advice.

I have a few other ideas as well:
1. Is it possible to use a class created as a monster hero.... i.e... say the playable werewolf class and just place another monster hero skin instead. So as an example. I would like to take the skin from the diablo pet mod and place it over the werewolf mod. I know the skills I would have to change and give it something unique that better fits playing as diablo. But it piqued my interest enough to give it a shot and ask how difficult it would be to do something like that? I was thinking I could add a special gem class called "soulstones" that only diablo could use, or maybe just monster hero classes. Maybe skills like fireball, or flamethrower. Could also be a summoner class as well. Summoning dark minions to the battlefield.

2. My second idea was a Predator Class, where one of the skills would change the whole look of the environment to equal something like the Infa-red vision of the character from the movies. It would have a duration and during that time you could get a damage increase, zero fumble chance and enemy AI would be practically zero since it would be like you were invisible. Your characters appearance would change to the render behind objects look to give that appearance of the mirror armor from the movie as well.

3. Xeno class from Aliens, the possibilities are endless.

If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. You seem to be one of the experts on here from what I can tell and so far have been the only person replying to my posts. TIA

That is the correct website. They're in the process of moving themselves to a new host so I'll message them on Discord and ask them for advice on this matter.

Since the website is under maintenance, I'll provide the Link for one of the other Discords where some of the modders can be messaged: https://discord.gg/4CcfsB

I've actually never modded. I merely advise modders. I can ask the Torch Modders to see if they can provide answers here on specific questions such as using the Guts Editor to achieve the first steps of your ideas.

Hi @leaning. Sorry we are still fixing our hosting arrangement so our site is down.
How far have u gotten merging those mods? From what ive read, tho i think Unearthed Arcana is great, it just has too many conflicts with other mods because it changes so many things (which a lot of those mods u chose also try to do).
Also i think Torchfull contains the Variant classes so ur better off choosing just one. If i may suggest, go with Variant since its just classes while Torchfull contains so much more and therefore has big chances for conflict too. Instead analyze what u like about torchfull - remember torchfull is itself a merge mod, so whatever u like in it exists as a separate mod.
As for the splitting monsters, yes thats a synergies feature.
For the misaligned pets, thats probly some UI changes from ur mod choices conflicting with each other. Be on the alert when trying to merge any mods which say they have made UI changes.
