I agree! Pretty sure I made a thread long ago asking for this very mod. However, believe it or not I'm not even entirely such a simple concept is possible. I think I read a dev post at one point saying that for whatever reason there was some limitation with the game which didn't allow them to have voice icons as part of the core game. I'll have to go searching for the post some other day when I have more time, but not tonight unfortunately.

Even if you are not allowed to use icons, then there are emojis like 💬🗨🗣🔇

Sadly I don't know how to make a mod and haven't found a good guide which explains it well.

Ugh, I've looked and looked but cannot find this in writing. Maybe it was said on a stream? I don't remember. Probably a good dozen or more threads created about this though. This is bothering me so much. Closest answer I could find was this[forums.fatsharkgames.com], which at least verifies someone else thought a dev said something about it. Sorry I couldn't do better.
