Mod Request: No invincible legs.
When a mech loses a leg the leg itself remains and it limps around on it. This in itself is fine, Mechwarrior 2 had the leg come off and you could stand there like a dumb one legged chicken and move no-where unless you had jumpjets.

The problem comes with the way the dead leg is implemented. Currently the dead leg will become a completely invincible shield for the other leg when it is blown off. This is extremely frustrating as AI mechs like to spin around a lot and you often can't see them properly.

As a result it's possible to fire an entire burst into what is suddenly better armour than the leg had when it was functioning.

There's a few possible fixes for this.

1. Have the leg no longer block shots and they just go through it.
2. Have hits to the leg deal reduced damage but to the functioning leg.

I could have sworn the destroyed leg had damage transferred to the connected torso at a reduced rate. At least that definitely works in MWO that way. Maybe I just assumed it worked the same. Would need to test it out.

It may well do that, I've certainly accidentally cored my fair share of lights trying to hit the other leg.

Which is even worse honestly.

This sounds like a bug, as %50 of any damage to the destroyed leg should be transferred up into the torsos. ( 25% to front 25% to back )
so it may SEEM invincible but it's just very reduced damage.
(This was a very much used tactic in MWO, using dead arms as shields to reduce incoming damage)

It should in this case transfer to the other leg I think. Or just not. It's extremely frustrating trying to leg lights for salvage only to have them blow up because you hit the dead leg, taking great care not to hit the torso.

I see what you say but I've never found that to be the problem. The "dead" leg doesn't move, so if you zoom in it's pretty obvious which leg's still alive and you can aim for it. At least to me. But then I also have a zoom mod installed. :D

IMO the best way to implement a fix is that if the dead leg takes 2x as much damage as its base HP, it should blow off and the mech should become inoperable, same as losing 2 legs' worth of damage. i.e. if it had 24 HP, it will take total of 48 HP damage, 24 HP until the leg "dies", 24 more before it gets dismembered completely. You're also taking 2 legs' worth of damage in one leg before dying so that is kind of "fair".

the reason it doesnt transfer to the other leg is beacause of logic.
the legs are not attached to eachother, how would damage transfer, thats why damage transfers to the torso instead, they are directly connected.

Like others said, it's not invincible, the damage does transfer to the torso, but I get what you're saying about it being a shield for the other leg, which is true and annoys me as well.
It really should be removed when destroyed, none of the newer games do that anymore. At least with the Battletech PC game, it's irrelevant since that's not a shooter game like this is, it's more just a cosmetic annoyance.

I can only assume that designers just can't fathom a cosmetic way to portray the mechs still trying to limp around on only 1 leg now.

MW3 had legging effectively disable a mech and it was the worst part about that game. Every fight just became about targeting the legs for easy and quick kills, to the point it was safest to unarmour your upper body and hull-down your legs, using the extra tonnage for gunnery.
