I was able to do so by editing the game files. I do get a warning every time I launch the game stating that it couldn't load the vanilla trains, but just click ok and the game launches fine.
Then when starting a game, make sure to actually select mods you want to play with, or the game will crash when opening the trains shop. Also not sure if this will work for already existing games.
You can find the train file in a path similar to this: steam/steamapps/common/nimbyrails/resources/trains, just empty the mod.txt file.
Whenever W&W edits this file it will get installed again, so you'll have to delete again at that point.
And then feel free to request such a feature to be supported by the game. :D
Thanks TKR, already found the directory myself but didn't change anything yet. Just clearing the mods.txt file without any critical errors looks like to be a easy mod. Thanks for sharing your experience.
edit: Just to empty mods.txt doesn't work for existing savegames. The vanilla trains keep listed, just their names geht replaced with their "placeholders" as the data is missing.
Does anyone know if the savegame files can be "easily" modified (they are binary and not text based) to try to remove vanilla trains there?
Btw. TKR, it's your mods which I'm using as I'm situated near D-A-CH-FL, thank you very much for these efforts too.
I'll release a mod for it.
