NWN EE to add portraits for NPCs in Toolset
Greetings 🙂

Little introduction: this is my first online discussion EVER, also i'm italian so my english may be simple and mispoken. Pls feel free to correct me if i make mistakes or to ask if something is unclear ❤️

As you may see in the title, i need help for adding portraits in nwn ee, not just for PC but specially for my NPCs in the Toolset

To be more specific:
I learned to add portraits in nwn ee (creating 5 different .tga files with specific dimension and putting them in the portrait folder), but when i open the Toolset and try to create an NPC, thoose portraits are not available

Is someone able to guide me step by step to how to add correctly portraits to the Toolset so i can use them for NPCs?

Thank you all sincerely🥺

To use custom portraits in the toolset, you need to add them to a text file called portraits.2da.

https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Portraits.2da

You can get the official file here:

https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwnee/other/nwn-ee-819334-full-2da-source

Add your lines at the end, with sequential line numbers.

Put the edited file in the override subfolder to test it.

P.S. This is the simple answer. If you plan to do a lot of custom content, there is a tool on github called NWNExplorer which grabs official files directly from the game itself. If you want to publish your module, you will need to move your custom files from override to a .hak file.

Thank you <3
I ignored the steam forum for some days bc i didn't expect to recive help so quickly, so thank you again

At the beginning i didn't understand the solution, bc i couldn't modify the portraits.2da you mentioned, but i looked for an app and i found Yata. I modified the file adding the portraits and it worked >:D

Yes, Yata is ideal, though you can use a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++.
Hello, i tried the same and put the modfied portraits.2da into the override folder. The Portraits still don't appear in Aurora Toolset

This works for modules you load in the game not in the toolset.

This is the answer.

If you want to use the portraits you have to put portraits.2da file into a .hak file with the NWHak.exe [in your install directory] and then put that .hak into 'documents/neverwinter nights/hak' and load the .hak file on the custom content tab of the module you wish to add it to, inside the toolset.

Same as you would to add CEP to a module for an example.

There is also more information here:
NWVault Wiki - portraits.2da[nwn.wiki]

Hope it helps.
