One main problem is that there are a lacking number of talented workshop creators to drown out the spam maps. It may take someone a few weeks or months to make a decent map, but spam maps are easy to make in an hour. Another issue is that the workshop community can be nitpicky at times. Making a difficult level will not bode well for you, it will most likely get disliked a lot, regardless of the quality of the level. Since spam maps are so easy for the average clone drone player, they get upvoted since they can beat it easily.
The workshop seems to favor adventures more over endless levels. It sucks that it's this way. There could be a lot of factors leading into this, but I'm guessing one of them is that the devs encourages people to make adventures, which may come at a cost of neglecting endless levels.
Another problem is the level editor competitions. They should be motivating for workshop creators to give it their all, but they end up being demotivating for how unorganized they are. The biggest insult was the 2nd level editor competition where a map from 2017 won an award. That horrible choice can be so demotivating to talented workshop creators seeing a lower quality map win a competition. I won't vent too much on this since it's not relevant right now, but my point is that the level editor competitions are just bad. They can end up promoting spam maps, which is an insult to talented workshop creators who works on a map for a few months, only to not win because one random judge thinks otherwise.
I would like to see the workshop flourish again, but at this rate the Clone Drone workshop will just be barren and neglected.
I get the devs want more people to participate, but a lot of these ways aren't very good. I already stated plenty of times how dumb the theme of this competition is, all it does is lure in more people to participate. It also has no purpose, you could of just said "Everyone is allowed to participate in the competition" as a part of the competition description, not the title or theme. Previous competitions were also beginner's friendly, so what even is the point of this theme?
