How to separate units from Lord?
In the old Total War games you can send, say, a troop of horsemen just to go scout ahead of your army, then reintegrate them when the rest of your army catches up.

Yeah yeah balance blah blah how can I configure the game such that my own and NPC units are not tied to Lords, but allowed to free roam?

EDIT by configure my game I mean RPFM or Assembly Kit

No, every army, no matter how small, needs a general.

I'm not calling a troop of horsemen an army, I'm calling it a troop which detaches from an army.

The old Total War games would simply default the general status to the next highest ranking unit in that army, if ever you want your general to garrison a city or lead another army.

Didn't like this change either, takes away a whole layer of tactics and options from the player, but it is what it is. Now heroes exclusively fill this scouting role, i'd love it if heroes could transport troops or there was a supply route like the caravan mechanic for bringing reinforcements from built up regions.

Thanks, but I'm waiting for someone with more technical know-how of the game that might have a suggestion as to where I should go looking withing the game's modding tools, RPFM and Assembly Kit.

It only makes sense that if it used to be that way, and it isn't anymore, but the tools are more advanced now, I should be able to recreate 'older technology' with ease. It's simply a matter of familiarity with the tools and I'm hoping to save some time here, since I'm still learning how to use both, for years.

This was changed when they introduced a new engine and Deco has confirmed that all armies will need a general. There is a mod that allowed a garrison force to patrol each region but i haven't tried it out.

If you mean the Province Patrols mod, I'm using it now. There's also a Population Mechanic mod.

If you dig around in RPFM you can see all the old empty tables for population, ancestry, etc, that are simply unused now, same thing in Assembly Kit and I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of setting them up.
