State of Invasion
This game has been evolving for years. The current state of Invasion is now highly dependent on geography. Offense was dominant until this latest update. Now, with camo net and muzzle flashes, defense has the advantage. This is especially true when dealing with objectives that are surrounded by open and/or lower terrain. From what I've gathered from real military scenarios over the years, this current state is now more realistic than previous iterations.

This situation would change only if buildings become destructible, or actual tactical nuclear options become available.

Highly coordinated armor efforts could also be viable, but highly coordinated efforts are generally difficult given that we are civilians with no real world consequences hanging over our heads when it comes to disobeying SLs or the commander. Also, given that the commander / SL roles are volunteer and don't require any kind of actual experience, the orders they give might be completely idiotic and be worthy of disobedience.

Along with enlarging the field of view for pilots flying transport helicopters, it might be worth considering the commander role be made available only to those with 1,000+ hours, or 100+ hours in the game. I'm really not sure whether this suggestion is even viable given that, with over 3,000 hours, I don't always want to lead a squad or a team. Sometimes I just want to run and gun. In other words, I believe the simulation has, in many ways, caught up with reality. Honestly, I say well done. I can't think of any other multiplayer fps that has accomplished what Squad has accomplished.

In terms of next steps, I keep thinking of EVE online, or other RPG type player rating systems. I don't know that this is even possible within the goals of Squad's developers, but if there could be some kind of dedicated player rating system that gives greater weight to those with more hours in the game when it comes to the commander role... I think the challenges posed by the new state of defensive advantages could be countered.

Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book about how achieving 10,000 hours of expertise in any field makes one an expert in that field. Perhaps this kind of metric could take Squad, or multiplayer FPS games to a new and unprecedented level of competition.
