Easy for you to say since your skin got accepted by OVK and i have to admit it it's pretty good.
There's a lot of good creation out there that got less visitors/votes/favourites while a bland colorless creation got more visitors/votes/favourites

If it helps, most of the top rated skins are flashy and impressive, not many are bland and boring as you suggest. At any rate, hopefully OVK will decide more carefully what does and does not make it into the safe this time around
