Primitive men, who lived from hunting and gathering, worked much less hours a day than farmers, and farmers work fewer hours a day than we who live in cities.
In a normal, resource-less and scarce environment, a hunter-gatherer couple "worked" for 10 to 15 hours a week to feed the whole family, make clothes, and build / repair shelters.
Then, as villagers begin to work heavy on agriculture, it is normal for them to be sad. I don't like working either.
Sure thing they gotta prey first! How do you expect getting any crops at all without preying first, eh? Are you an atheist or what?! Be grateful your people are mild enough not to call for human sacrifices because atheists go first then.
