Definitely Off Topic - Beware of this trick
Just a few minutes ago an attempt was made to get me to reveal my Steam Account login details.

Somebody called Jonas contacted me, said he had something important to discuss directly (I assumed it was about Train Simulator) and asked to be accepted as a friend. I did so and then this Jonas said he had erroneously reported my to Steam for being a scammer and that I would be banned unless I did something about it. An attempt was made to get me to contact 'Steam Support' via an unfamiliar link - which I ignored of course. He then immediately unfriended me.

I attached a link to the conversation for reference. It's quite amusing and well worth a read. I reported him of course.

Please beware of such trickery, and don't be fooled. If Steam wanted you to do anything they would contact you directly.

Hi Warwick Rail.
Thanks for the heads up on this. It sticks out like a sore thumb though that English is not this persons first language, or they are somewhat illiterate eh.

Indeed. A very primitive attempt to look like the genuine article from Steam Support, but as you point out the user's first language is obviously not English - although I would not hold that against them at all. Nor would illiteracy, in and of itself, be any reason why I would not help somebody. I draw the line at bare-faced trickery, however. Anyway, it gave me a good laugh - "seapunkcaptain" - whatever next?
I've encountered that before. Nearly lost my account. Thank God I was able to reset my password before the arse could sell my account or do something horrible to it.

"Both account will get permanently ban and IP Hardware Blocked"
"but i want you to be safe here add the steam admin and confirm it to him that it was a mistake report"

The English is so poor its comical.

Anyways quick story. I got one of these in the past and before the scammer was able to say anything. I said "Let me guess, you reported me back accident so you can get my TF2 items." I got immediately blocked from the scammer

Precisely. But it was the fact that, according to the scammer's fake screenshot, a Steam administrator would supposedly rejoice in the Discord name "seapunkcaptain" which really said it all. Plus the fact that that the scammer actually expected me to take this seriously. What an idiot !

Seems same thing was about to happen to me
The user who said he had reported me in error was PARKERK11 and he send link to seapunkcaptain s page while ushering me to contact through discord. Heres some screenshots from the discussion https://imgur.com/a/Hlyk5UB

They will try anything out of desperation these days. One really has to question IQ levels of 'some' people! Still, it is good for a laugh tho'. I enjoy it when they phone me, I keep them hanging on as long as I can and winding then right up. Always brightens my day.
