I'm here today to share with you some information regarding Steam Workshop and its rating system.

The rating system with Steam Workshop is rather different than any other rating system I've encountered. You would think that the Stars would be a dynamic average depending on the makeup of how many likes and dislikes you have. For example, if you have 5 likes and 1 dislike, you should get 4 stars - right?


Steam Workshop ratings are dependent on the total number of Likes and Dislikes, and certain "Stars" are hidden a certain number of reviews is achieved.

You could have 100 positive reviews and 0 dislikes, and still only have 4 stars. This is because in order for you to be eligible for 5 stars you need to have between 150-200 total reviews before it will even consider calculating a 5 star.

The same goes with lower stars. If you have closer to a 4 star scenario, you may only see 3 stars until a certain number of reviews is met.

While I do not have access to the knowledge or information on how the system works entirely (Steam keeps it hush hush and changes it from time to time to make sure people don't game the system), however, a very good rule of thumb is, very loosely, you need a lot of positive reviews and a lot of total reviews.

Terran Command is different since the in-game Community Content Steam Workshop browser has its own star system - it more closely reads the actual Likes and Dislikes and averages them out for a Star rating. So if you do not have a Steam Workshop rating yet - you can go to Community Content in-game to see the average score your scenario has received so far!
