The idea is simple. Right hand holds a weapon, be it a melee or ranged one, and does a basic attack. Left hand allows grabbing a victim by the collar and murdering it up close, both with melee and ranged weapons. Technically it is doable even with basic weapons like machete or M16, but if you want to go further, try making a mod compatible with different weapon packs.
