My mod was removed
Hello, my mod was removed and there was no reference or note about why. I did accidentally upload two of them so may that is why they were removed. I am unable to delete them and I cannot upload my new bank mod that I have been working on either. I should mention that I uploaded a (single) one for ats with the exact same content and it has not been removed (yet?)

what was the mod?
TwinShadow 12 Dec, 2023 @ 11:22pm
They were mods that removed the "Unauthorized Modifications" message at the bottom of the UI.

Since both ETS2 and ATS variants are gone from the workshop, my guess as to why this is the case is because well... the mods are third party and have nothing to do with SCS, so are not entitled to any support from SCS. Very rarely can a mod actually cause a bug with the main game itself, but I think I've only ever seen this happen twice across both games.

And since the message is there for a reason, this could give someone a false sense (despite warnings on the workshop page, but that alone won't save anything) of a user not using mods, when in fact, they are.

Yes, I did try to make that abundantly clear on the workshop page. I have never had a mod crash on me (except for when I was installing a bunch of map mods in ATS that weren't very compatible with one another.)

My thought process on this was that even if they DID end up sending their game into support, this mod would alert the devs that this game was in fact, modded. As each save game includes a list of mods that were loaded and will try to "save" you from loading a game with a missing mod.

If these are not allowed on the workshop, I can completely understand that. I just would love to be able to upload my economy mod to the workshop.

Not sure if this explains why your mod was removed, but it is informative:

That message is a legal disclaimer distancing SCS from games/profiles broken through the use of mods.

You just need to look at the discussions after an update and see all the "the update broke my game" posts to see that people don't pay attention to the warnings or read mod descriptions either.

As far as uploading other mods goes, Steam automatically bans you for 24hrs per banned mod. So you'll be able to post late Friday/Saturday.

Thank you for the clarification that makes sense. I'll just keep it to myself and friends who know what they are doing. I was just a little confused earlier because my mod didn't fall into one of the "rule-breaking" categories.

Also I do have one more question. Is it illegal to port the ETS2 exclusive backgrounds to ATS? The rules do mention something about making steam inventory items available without owning them on steam. Would that also apply if they were available in ATS through a mod? Specifically I am taking about the Northern Lights theme and the Under the Bridge background both of which are NOT on the ATS steam marketplace (they are on the ETS2 marketplace)

The rules do ban porting trucks (probably licensing reasons) from one game to another.

Yes. Because it's an item that is for sale on the market it would class as piracy. Just like if you ported/made available a DLC package.

Personally I think it's a bit daft given Steam Inventory stuff is all in the base game and can be enabled by anyone rather easily, but it is what it is.

Thank you for the reply, I'll keep it for personal use :) (I own both marketplace items).

Yeah I do also. I realized it is really just one line specifies if it is a workshop item. Surprises me that the check is not hard-coded. But also if you do the digging and discover how easy it is to enable an item you don't have, I think you have earned the "rite of passage" to use it yourself.
