Legacy textures and machines
I am thinking about adding some old walls and pump to give custom submarines and shuttles a bit of visual variety. The old stuff appears greyed out and with a coffin icon: Does it work ? Will custom submarines and shuttles work requiring only vainilla if I include legacy walls and machines ?

Some legacy equipment is still functional or has limited functionality (the current stuff is more up to date). You could place one of the current pieces, hide it visually, and then place the legacy piece behind it (adjust the layer depth) so that in-game you interact with the current one but you see the legacy one.

Anything that isn't part of a mod should work fine for vanilla stuff.

Thanks I will try functionality of the legacy machinery stuff with a test super-simple submarine then. Actually I like some of the legacy stuff. Unfortunately many of it is very low-resolution.
But for example pumps and some legacy stuff is ok. Also maybe the low-res not as noticeable for stuff underwater because of the blurry effect.

It's legacy for a reason (i.e. it was made very early in the game's development), but it's great to still have them available.
I see that the legacy diving suit locker (5 suits stored horizontally) only have the first slot with the diving suit icon. Does it affect gameplay in any way? (Bots storing suits, diving suit spawning, oxygen refill when powered, etc). I would like to use it for a submarine I am doing because of the convenient compact storage for a medium size team near the airlock.

I honestly can't remember, or I never tried it with bots. They should honour the tags for storage, same for spawning. Plonk one in a test submarine and try it in the editor sandbox. From memory, I think the reason I didn't like that old legacy suit storage was there's no oxygen refill option.

Thanks. I didn't remember about the sandbox stuff. The bots seems to place diving suits in the legacy diving locker just fine. Unfortunately it does not have automatic oxygen refill for the suits inside (in no slots). It can't be powered directly. It appears greyed out and unclickable in wiring mode.

You can still use the old legacy suit storage if you place it as a background object (non-interactable) and place invisible suit lockers in front of it. Now, players and bots will interact with the invisible lockers but it will look like the legacy. Just don't use the lockers with oxygen storage at the bottom as that would be weird and tricky. Scale the lockers to cover the space the legacy locker sprite uses, and place as many lockers as you think the legacy should hold suits.

I think I will leave the legacy one even with the inconveniece of non oxygen refill (not really so much with an oxygen bottle refiller nearby and not being the only suit locker rack in the entire submarine). The legacy diving suit locker have different sprites for the suits inside that are much more realistic for suits stored horizontally (for example separated helmet) than simply a new diving suit locker turned to the side. Also the diving suit locker is scalable in general, not by axis and the legacy one is shorter per suit vertically but longer horizontally than a normal suit locker turned to the side. If I make the legacy locker non interactuable it won't display the suits inside correctly.
