[Updated 1.2.2] New Factions, Campaign, Intro / Imperial Guard / Steel Legion
Mod features have been broken with ongoing Gladius patches.

Mod is currently in need of maintenance.

I am much taken by work, but will make sure to update this thread as soon as a new version is released.

My current focus is on a "campaign mod" which would allow progression between scenarios.

... then click on "show more" on profile to view direct public download.
... and download from this post!

2. Deploy to:
Documents / Proxy Studios / Gladius / Mods
(and create this folder if it does not exist)

This new version also includes artwork from modder TerrorBlades, who created Steel Legion icons and is working on Death Krieg and Steel Legion models.

IMPORTANT: In case you encounter problems, delete the file located here:
Documents / Proxy Studios / Gladius / Configuration / *.*
(it will recreate itself)

Such problems are not related to the new factions but only to extended startup options. Game devs are working on that issue.

Two Imperial Guard factions are playable:

You should pick the Steel Legion Infantry.

* 'The Steel Legion 47th Infantry' is the main thing to play here. It has a new campaign and intro video.

* Another new faction, 'The Imperial Guard' is an expanded version of the vanilla Astra Militarum, with working additional units, edicts, techs etc; but uses the default vanilla campaign. I am not working on this all-around faction in next updates, but on releasing more IG full factions.

Steel Legion 47th Infantry has a very specific mechanized infantry gameplay. This is an Infantry Regiment, so it has access to more infantry options than the new Imperial Guard, some special Steel Legion units, but less tank options.

Expect to take many losses too and to have to send men back and forth to the frontline! Use Cadre units! Use APCs to transport units back and forth!

Unit List

Steel Legion Units include:
  • Light infantry units such as Conscripts.
  • HQ Detachments such as the Astropath, the Master of Ordnance and the Ministorium Priest ;
  • Command units like the Platoon Command, Commissar, Company Command ;
  • Fast attack vehicles such as Bane Wolves, Devil Dogs or Hellhounds ;
  • Armored transports like the Chimera APC ;
  • Missile vehicles like the Manticore and support artillery such as the Wyvern.
  • New Discipline mechanics for lmperial Guard infantry units.

And more are coming.

More Imperial Guard factions are also being developed:

Work has begun on the Death Korps of Krieg!

I am currently implementing a Siege Regiment, which will give a different gameplay than the current Steel Legion infantry or the all-around new Imperial Guard.

More to come?

* New factions are expected, such as Space Marines Chapters later.

* Check the Patreon page[www.patreon.com] for more information about coming factions and units! Your support will be loved and make me go ten times faster, but of course it is not required (mod is released for free).

* A new campaign feature is also in the works. It would allow to play scenario after scenario in a chained campaign. Again, check the Patreon page[www.patreon.com] to if you want to support this gameplay feature! (I know I know, lousy advertisement! ;) )

========================================

For now this mod adds 21 New Units, 36 New Techs, 9 Weapons, 1 New Campaign, 1 New Intro Video, many new buildings, and new abilities such as imperial doctrines and national decisions.

New game goes up to research Tier 13 and also has superstructures and endgame buildings which occupy 3 slots.

As of now it is "just" an imperial guard expansion, but once it will be complete it will reach its greatest ambition which inspired its name:

... ETERNAL WAR!

Important:
  • Make sure that AI players do not select "Astra Militarum Expanded" or "Steel Legion Infantry", or you may experience crashes; these factions are mostly stable now, but you are on your own if you do!
  • Select Steel Legion Infantry for your faction
  • Enjoy the new intro and campaign!

This requirement about AI should be removed soon in next updates, once the game is perceived as stable enough and balanced.

The mod aims at being a huge remplacement for the Astra Militarum; you should hopefully never have to get back to vanilla AM. :P

Other Notes

Currently poor art-wise; icons are OK but do not expect great models.
Some balance problems are expected.

Includes the latest versions of the "New Parameters Mod" I released ( here ) which adds many density, difficulty and map options.

Previous version included the "Dangerous Planet" expanded by Jaylo, and new versions might too.

There is an obsolete but still interesting documentation here:
Download documentation (PDF)[docdro.id]

And a now obsolete Testing Playground[docs.google.com] with complete unit roster list and space for your feedback.

Updated first post with many screenshots. Models are mostly poor I know, as I recombined stuff... but I still am very fond of some of them :)

Wow, very impressive work so far, can't wait until it's finished! Nice job, good stuff!
Thank you for your support!
Imperial prayers are welcome too and appreciated to get this done as soon as possible!

Some good news:

- Chimera APCs and Taurox APCs tested and working.

- Bane Wolf weapon tests: some kroot hounds have volunteered for the test. Great results! Chem Cannon actually fires deadly green stuff at the enemy. And ... well, the kroots died, of course!

- Added Chain of Command:

You may field only 1 Company Command Squad (5 men).
You may field as many Platoon Command Squads (5 men) as you would like.

Each gives a non-stackable Discipline buff, to allied infantry units only. Platoon Command has only a 2-hex-radius, so must stay close, Company Command (unique unit, only one you can field) has a 6-hex radius.

Discipline is a +1 to accuracy and morale.
General accuracy and morale of guardsmen has been reduced in this mod so this can be useful.

This buff does not stack with several same command units (you can't have several Platoon Command buffs), but a Company Commad buff can be stacked with a Platoon Command buff (+ a Commissar or Lord Commissar one, if you want to field a full chain of command!).

With all this, your 20-men Conscripts squad, which is easy to recruit and has 3 Morale and 3 Accuracy and less armor (too large formation for proper defense), may hope to be of great use. Well, until some of them die, of course, because they will quickly falter.

could be the Ultimate Apocalypce mod but for Gladius-Relics of War, I would gladly be a tester.
Yesterday saw early tests of commissars and other minor leaders.

But also, for once, a further development of the propaganda aspects, and some imperial 4X customization.

You can build Recruitment Offices to train the 20-men-squad Conscripts.

This means that training Conscripts will not slow down your regular units training. Edicts can also push (=force) more of your population "into arms" for more conscripts, at the cost of some loyalty debuff. Such edicts increase recruitment offices output tremendously.

Alternatively, you can seize civilian resources (well the little they may have) for some food and ore bonus. Such things are collected at the Propaganda Facility, the new version of your loyalty building, which can also train Commissars. Collecting resources will also have a loyaly debuff, but each propaganda facility in the city will collect and add all they can, so the more of these the more resources gained (and population constrained).

Again, training commissars will not slow down the production of other units; you must field them with your infantries after all!

All this in the Emperor's name!

Thank you Mickie, Dutch and Eddie !

I think test versions should be out in just a few days now. Wanted it for yesterday, but it should be out for this weekend. Also I'll add more screenshots during the week.

Quick question, how did you get the ingame icons to show up?
I've made several custom icons for the modded units I've made, but they show up blank ingame.
That's odd. You must remember to export them with DDS format, DXT3 compression, and another option. Qai wrote an article about that part on our modding guide:

https://gladiusrelicsofwar.gamepedia.com/Modding:Icons

you will find also Potato McWhiskey guide about textures from there. We try to put as much information as possible, once we are sure of the results.

ohh I'm an idiot, I didn't export it in DXT3.
thanks for the quick response.

Do you think you could hijack the hero equipment mechanism to add a special weapon to the infantry and heavy weapons like mortars or a flamer, grenade launcher etc.?

You can do that.

Very cool. I like the ten units per platoon, as well. I modded the same into my game, but also upped ork boyz mobs and reduced space marine squad size while retaining their approximate power level. The game certainly feels more "fluffy" with larger squads of guardsmen and smaller squads of marines.
