Why Do Numerous Mods Require Extra Setup Steps?
I've noticed that the vast majority of Black Mesa mods on the Workshop require extra steps (i.e. copying files to the "custom" folder) to get things working properly.

How is Black Mesa's Steam Workshop integration different than other Source Engine games (i.e. Portal 2, Garry's Mod, etc.) such that clicking "Subscribe" doesn't automatically download and properly mount custom content?

Probably game can't read certain files, so that's why custom folder method is needed. Either way it's not hard to follow that method.

I'm not complaining about anything being difficult to set up. Other Source Engine games (Portal 2, Synergy, Garry's Mod, etc.) are all able to read from the "steamapps/workshop" folder without issues, and I'm wondering what exactly makes Black Mesa different.
