Editing mod text files does not change mod in game - advice please?
Hi there. I was trying to make a simple change to an economy mod, making a few balance tweaks. But my changes don't seem to work in-game and I could use some advice.

I opened up the ModuleType file, changed the maintenance cost and saved. Simple, right?
FYI the path I used to get to the files was:

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\AirshipsGame\steam\mods\MOD-67098416-Advanced Economy\adv_economy\ModuleType

  1. Then I ran the game and found that the prices remain from the original mod.
  2. Then I went to the mod menu and hit reload and tried again. No change.
  3. Then I disabled the mod and re-enabled the mod. No change.
  4. Then I disabled the mod and used the install mod option. No change.
  5. Then I went to the mod folder, deleted the ugc and updateTimes files for the mod and restarted the game. The game re-downloaded the mod from the workshop, which of course replaced my changes.

I can't figure out how to make my own modifications to a mod and get the game to accept them. It seems that Airships takes the original files from the mod, then compresses them into a file that the game uses. It seems that the game only pulls from this compressed file and only updates the file when there is a change in the workshop itself.

So, is it not possible for me to edit the scripts / files for a mod locally and see an in-game change?

Any insight is appreciated.

I think i know how.

Take the mod from C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\AirshipsGame\steam\mods

and move it to C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\AirshipsGame\mods

then uunsub from the mod, that way it will only be saved locally in your pc

Thanks I'll give it a shot. But what is the point of the mod files even existing in script / text form if changing them does not actually cause changes?

It does cause changes otherwise mods wouldnt exist. You just have to do it the correct way.

If you make changes to the mod while its in the steam folder, i assume that steam updates/overwrites local changes and syncs up the mod to the workshop version.

That is confirm-able by adding your code, and checking for changes when you play the game and after. I'll have to do that. The solution may be to set the files to read only. Thanks for the idea!
