Help with modding?

I think I would like to try to make a mod for the game but I don't know where to start.
Someone has experience in this?

Here's the official guide to get started: https://github.com/greenheartgames/gdt-modAPI

If you want to know how a particular mod does something you can always download it and open up the code to see it (but please don't copy code for your own mod)
