I think that the OP wants something a tad more detailed then just being able to alter random generation perimiters.

I would also like something that would let me plant stars and planets where I want them, I actually fancy the idea of doing maps based on Eve Online which cannot be done right now unless we have a full map editor.

There is a full map editor. However, you need to buy the Map Pack DLC that came out the other day to access it and as Nastytang stated, you access it through the main menu.

I've only just had a brief look at it, but you can load random generated maps and mess with them or completely blank maps and place stars and systems. So you can recreate the EVE Online thing if you so desired...and have the DLC.

thank you so much for the info. there is infact a dlc map editor for 4.99 available for galactic civilizations. I just needed to be pointed in the right direction.

Can you set the location of players homeworlds using the map editor?

yes
you simply click on the planet and on the right you can choose to set as player planet or ai planet

Thanks. I just bought it and it seems good. Not a scenario editor but good enough. I was pleasantly surprised that it supported a star system that I had added via a mod.

ya, its a really good setup and user friendly as well.

According to the galciv stream the map editor DLC will be updated in the next few patches with new abilties (events, quests and the like)
