[Build] editor not working any more
I cannot go into 3D mode on the editor. I'm pressing the right enter key, yet it won't let me enter the 3D mode.

Edit: I deleted all the files from the duke nukem folder, then redownloaded them. I then tried the map editor, and I could enter 3D mode using the left enter key. Thing is, after I close the build editor and open it up again, I am unable to go into 3D mode at all.

Well, I wasn't able to, then I switched to fullscreen and suddenly it launched in 3D mode. But now, I can not go back to 2D, which is annoying.

-- EDIT --
OK, a minute of digging and I think I know what's wrong. Config file for build is screwed up. Go to Steam\SteamApps\common\Duke Nukem 3D\gameroot. There is build.cfg in there. It's kind of hard to read out. Basically find a line:
key2dmode = FFFFFFFF

and change it to
key2dmode = 9C

-- EDIT 2 --
The hell is wrong with this crap. It resets itself for some reason. I guess readonly may help.

-- EDIT 3 --
Oh whatever, longer list:
keyforward = C8 keybackward = D0 keyturnleft = CB keyturnright = CD keyrun = 2A keystrafe = 38 keyfire = 1D keyuse = 39 keystandhigh = 1E keystandlow = 2C keylookup = FFFFFFFF keylookdown = FFFFFFFF keystrafeleft = 33 keystraferight = 34 key2dmode = 9C keyviewcycle = 1C key2dzoomin = D key2dzoomout = C keychat = F keyconsole = 45

There. I think these are the same as controls from original editor... I hope - I've never used Build before. After you edit a config file, save it. Right click on it, go to properties and set it to Read only - so it doesn't reset itself.

Thanks for the fix.

Although, to be honest, I can't remove sectors, even though, according to guides, I should be able to, so I think someone may want to look it up a bit.
I found another glitch. the Duke Nukem 3D tiles are not appearing on the tile list.

Edit: I have come up with a solution. Using dosbox, mount c:\ as c:\progra~2\steam\steama~1\common\dukenu~1\gameroot\classic

use the following commands: kextract duke32.grp *.art, kextract duke3d.grp *.dat

copy the files that were extracted and put them in the gameroot folder. It will fix the issue where the Duke Nukem 3D tiles are not showing up in the tile selection screen.

Edit #2: I had to remove all the FFFFFF's from the config file so I can actually use the direction keys and stuff to navigate the 3D editor window.

thx ;)

....yeah, after having the keybindings removed every time and having to resort to using Dosbox in order to get the art files, I think I'm gonna wait for a proper official fix before I try to do any actual level editing.

This process is actually what I had to do to use the editor properly in the retail version of another build game. Luckily I remembered how to do it.

You could try to map using Mapster32:

Thanks for your help!:duke:
Apparently, Mapster32 has true room-over-room ability, something which the megaton version of duke nukem 3D probably has no compatibility with.

Then map without taking this feature in consideration :)

When I enter 3D mode I just see 2D mode with some random flat textures on the screen. Looks like this: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d94/soopytwist/Build_zps495f20be.png

^^
It works fine with a new map but when I load existing maps and enter 3D the display screws up. However if I load any of the example maps in the gameroot they appear okay, though the maps here look incredibly basic. If I load any of my maps or someone else's then the 3D mode doesn't work properly.

You need to be in a sector to be able to go in 3D view.
