Why the hell would that be illegal? It's a non-profit mod, and has been done since years now. People port those models since quit a while now.

Could you guys just do me a favor and stay out of here if you can't help me? You guys don't know how to port a character, but you still want to post something and therefore you annoy me.

A lot of characters have been ported outside of Valve games, Valve is totally okay with it and even if they were not okay with it, it is still up to them to deal with me, not to you.

You ought to be happy. If nobody but the ones who could help you were allowed to post, no doubt your thread would be buried and nobody would reply. At least this way it'll garner more views and hopefully attract someone to the thread that can answer your question.

I disagree, I would prefer a empty thread over this. I don't gain anything from people that come here with no idea how it works but still feel the need to say something.

Im sure someone can replace character models liek they do in Left 4 dead or Garry's Mod, jsut need to find a person who has this game and can do that.

Show me the part where the subscriber agreement tell it's illegal, because i probably missed it, there is Valve game content in many non-Valve games, like Garry's Mod, Killing Floor or Serious Sam (and probably more) by the same way you can find Bioshock stuff in the Source Filmmaker or Pokemons in Skyrim...

That's not clear, i still don't se where the problem is, if it's illegal why do we have CS or L4D models on Garry's mod? (and i'm talking about the Workshop, not the included models) Why Valve don't remove them? There is someting wrong, and i wanna know what.

yes ripping/porting characters and weapons is fairly easy, there are many helpful tutorials on youtube and the applications you will need. shedding light on garrys mod, No game "mods" are illegal as long as you own the original game ie HL2. however since contagion is not a mod and is a stand alone game utilizing valves source engine, although you may not be making any money off of it, you could be hit with legal actions if said party decides to take action against for not asking first for permision to use created content in another game.

It is stated very clear on the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
It is your problem if you think that this not clear enough
since you agreed with this agreement.

A lot of users are porting and ripping stuff nowadays but it doesn't mean that
everything is legal. It depends on the company and on the creator.
If the creator files a DMCA on your workshop item then you might be in trouble.
If you get enough reports from other users, the company might remove it from the workshop.

Still, a lot of companies allows you to port their stuff on some conditions.
Having a lot of custom content is always good for a company because it keeps
the playerbase happy and a happy playerbase will eventually grow bigger.
It is very rare to see a company cleaning up and checking workshop
items on a constant basis.

Copyright needs to be taken more seriously imo or it will lose it's meaning
and the result would be more stolen work & fraud or just a lot of dumb phone backgrounds :D
