Scenario Size
Hello,

I wanted to create a replica of my workplace, and I was wondering if there was any way to get a sandbox greater than 96x96?

Thank you,
Ryan

Hey @Zombi3h, unfortunately, technically no, 96 x 96 is hard coded at the moment, other sizes were tested during development but 96 x 96 was the best the developers could get without sacrificing game performance. You could probably go beyond by code modding the game but without a doubt you'll run into performance issues, might be worth a shot though.

I looked through the files that layout the scenario maps while seeing what I could edit about the sandbox mode rather than having to edit every save game after I make it. Technically it looks possible to make the map bigger but not so simple as just declaring a larger rectangle. It didn't look worth messing with. You can easily add more height to your hospital just by changing the allowed floors value if you are simply running out of space completely. It was probably in the tweakables file or someone has a mod out. To avoid long elevator rides or make more room for outdoor decor is at minimum a lot of effort, if truly possible.

The whole "it will cause performance issues" is a really bad reason to make it impossible rather than just put a warning on certain things or require it to be modded in. Devs tend to design games to run on fairly limited computers compared to what lots of gamers have. It's also really short term thinking given just how fast the average computer tech increases each year.

Hi @KhisanthMagus, thing is, we can mod it in but it is not the 'simpler' script modding that is what you currently see on the workshop but code modding, this is more advanced and involves changing and injecting code into the game to enact changes. This framework exists in the game and the modding community has worked with the developers to actually make this a reality. Right now, we have limited code modders, myself and Andy are the only modders with programming experience which is needed to make these type of mods. Unfortunately we both have a lot on our plates at the moment to try and work on a mod to allow for larger map sizes (I'm a bit behind on a few content updates for my mods haha!).
The modding community is extremely friendly and willing to go almost any mile to help out new modders, so if you are ever keen to give it a try, let me know. Otherwise, hopefully it is something we can tackle soon!
