Does this have to be earth-like planet tho? If not, I suggest the moon. I used a gravity generator at -1g and when over it, players got an effective -0.5g and started to go to space.

Edit: "Creative ways to get into space" I have a ship that a few versions ago went from earth-like to space without using any thrusters....
