The "CV Epic Warp Drive (150 LY Range)" is a reward from the Explorers Guild Terminal.
It takes a fair bit of grinding, but is SOOOO Worth It for Late Game Exploration.
BTW: You can "gift yourself" this using the console, but we'll all JUDGE you.
Next Version (v1.13 Experimental, should move to Production later this week):
There will be a craft-able (CV?) T2 Warp Drive (60 LY Range) available with this update.
I highly recommend going for the 150 LY Version...
Just make sure you've got plenty of Pentaxid in your ship, or you'll "be sorry".
It should be noted the SV version and the CV version of the warp drive have different ranges. The SV version can typically only do jumps in its current system, but the CV version can jump to distant systems.
If you intend to force a system jump without being able to build the CV you desire you can make a minimalist "platform/ring" CV that only has a few basic systems and a place to dock, and use it only to get to different systems.
In RE/2 there's also advanced forms of warp drives you can get, but you don't get them via upgrading anything.
On the other hand, it usually means that you don't have to trigger things unless you want to.
There are some quests that send you to other places and I have found that gives me more incentive to go places. Check the PDA tab for Single Player Missions.
