It cannot be upgraded meaning you must buy it somewhere or get it as a reward of some sort.

Current Version (v1.12 Vanilla):
The "CV Epic Warp Drive (150 LY Range)" is a reward from the Explorers Guild Terminal.
It takes a fair bit of grinding, but is SOOOO Worth It for Late Game Exploration.

BTW: You can "gift yourself" this using the console, but we'll all JUDGE you.
:steamsad:

Next Version (v1.13 Experimental, should move to Production later this week):
There will be a craft-able (CV?) T2 Warp Drive (60 LY Range) available with this update.

I highly recommend going for the 150 LY Version...
Just make sure you've got plenty of Pentaxid in your ship, or you'll "be sorry".

Unless you're in RE/RE2 you can't upgrade the warp drive AFAIK.

It should be noted the SV version and the CV version of the warp drive have different ranges. The SV version can typically only do jumps in its current system, but the CV version can jump to distant systems.

If you intend to force a system jump without being able to build the CV you desire you can make a minimalist "platform/ring" CV that only has a few basic systems and a place to dock, and use it only to get to different systems.

Pretty sure you just aim at the warpdrive with a multitool (on the upgrade setting) and it should tell you the requirements? It does that with constructors anyway.

In RE/2 there's also advanced forms of warp drives you can get, but you don't get them via upgrading anything.

One fun part of this game is being able to go anywhere and see what you run into. There are tons of things to go see do and explore - the best thing you can do is click on a planet within range of the warp drive and go see whats out there

ok i tried that, but i think i need a break. i was playing in freedom mode, but it seemed hard to make things happen there.

Most things don't happen until you "trigger" them. Either getting close enough, or talking to someone like a trader or commander. So you need to look around and explore.

On the other hand, it usually means that you don't have to trigger things unless you want to.

There are some quests that send you to other places and I have found that gives me more incentive to go places. Check the PDA tab for Single Player Missions.
