Reforged Eden 2 refines the whole game, adding content and changing mechanics, it feels like a really polished and better experience than the base game.

The Dark Faction DLC changes the game into something else, a more stressful experience and against the clock mechanic that can lead you to game over.

It really depends of what you're looking for.

RE2 way better

Nope... And never will be according to the RE2 guys. They don't want to limit those who can play the scenario to just those who own the DLC. By incorporating elements of the DLC into RE2, that is what would happen. By not doing so, it allows everyone who wants to, to play RE2.

RE2 is it then for now

The DLC does not mean that you can't still play "vanilla". The DLC (Dark Faction) is implemented as a "Scenario" sort of like RE2 or Lost Mia or the one about salvage. So there are three (or more) choices.

Fixes and stuff that work for all were released as a free Update, at the same time as the DLC.

Having played both i would say RE2 is much better than the paid DLC.
