So how, exactly, do I mod things?
Specifically, I want to tweak the diving suit to give a moderate amount of thermal protection so that deep-water spearfishing in the Arctic is more doable. I still want the cold to be a factor, just not quite as impactful as it is in vanilla.

Thing is, there's nothing about that in the diving suit's only entry in the data folder, which seems to be specifically for the block that contains it, not the suit itself.

So does anybody know what kind of file the suit's data would be in, and what utilities I'd need to edit it?

not possible
Huh. I thought this game came out with mod support? I guess that must've been just some rumor I heard somewhere.
it does but by mod support its just workshop and mod manager built into the game they didn't make anything new doable and a mod manager already existed and what you want to do was not and is not possible
That's not really 'mod support'. Ah well.
i know i thought they would do it better not having to download a servers mod if you have it, allow extra things to be done like give a converter for some of the file types and make exe modding supported at least in some amount. but no they make exe modding against the eula make it so you cant upload modded vehicles
Well things like this shouldn't be in the .exe anyway. That's just obsolete design. Stuff we might want to change should be out in the data folder where we can get at it.
the suit would be a xml file most likely. whether or not you change the thermal resistance is not something i have looked into. the xml files are readble in notepad. be wared changeing the xml file can really mess up your game
thats for the block the the model is also in the files but the rest is in the exe

Soupster seems to be right. Block values and stats are in XML files but I can't find character item values anywhere in any of the game's folders, and if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains--in this case, the .exe--must be the case.

It's not how things are done these days; I haven't seen item values locked away in the .exe since the 90's, but that's what was done here.
