is there a multiplayer mod yet?

I know there's local split screen but I'm just wondering if there's a mod to player locally on 2 different laptops.

No. I started to make one, but it became pointless due to how much the shipped game didn't support remote clients...

Unfortunately no. There is, however, a mod that enables you to chat with other players who also have the mod installed. That's about as close to multiplayer as we'll get for a long time, or ever...
