I'm finishing up on a new map, and trying to get the right enemies doing the stuff I want them to do. Is there some sort of guide and/or guideline on what enemy (e.g. investigator/executioner etc.) does what [emphasis] exactly [/emphasis]

Cheers :). For instance; what does "investigator" mean? Will he try to look for your men? Will he follow his path when he has seen you or roam around trying to find you? That sort of stuff; what makes an investigator an investigator?

Yep, the investigator will react to weapon sounds (and explosions) and come to investigate - and kick your ass. There are also other variations to this, specifically the Undecided investigator, which is more unpredictable and might come or not, or even wait a little bit before he comes. I personally recommend using the latter variation :)
