Mode Ideas:
I love both games, and Super-hexagon is not a rythm game, there are some music and the levels are always the same, but I would love to have this gameplay on audiosurf with my own music...that will be really a good thing. But I guess it would be very difficult.
To make easier we can maybe make the incoming lines something that reduce a lot your points, not an insta-kill like in Super-hexagon. there is already a mode in a circle so that won't be the more difficult. I guess the hardest will be to do these long lines, not just "dots" like we have in Audiosurf with colors and grey.
edit : super-hexagon is a great game btw :p.
I like the game's customization options, but there aren't currently any mods that fit my slower music, so I looked into making mods and skins and once the pages started talking about LUA I remembered that I can't even get Hello World to print even when using an API that simplifies many functions for me so I'm a terrible programmer.
I am a decent artist though - if anyone with programming knowhow finds my idea interesting, I will gladly do the textures for it although 3D modeling isn't my strong suit so that might take me some time to figure out. I'm not saying that as a cop-out though, I legitimately would want to pull some weight, it's just that there might be a learning curve in that instance.
So anyway, here's what I want.
Like I said, there aren't any mods or skins for slower music, an example of this would be the Tiny Bang Story Soundtrack (which is free, by the way), and I thought that a dreamlike mod similar to FlightPlus but slower and with a different goal would be more appropriate.
Basically, my idea is that you control a nimbus cloud in a really dream-like setting and your objective is to fly through rings; the smaller the ring, the more points it's worth. Like I said, this mode isn't very fast so I'd imagine the rings can vary in size quite a lot and players could still line up behind them. There would also be little particles of stardust that would be worth a tiny amount of points and would be much more common than the rings. You could expand the cloud by pressing left-click and shrink the cloud by pressing right-click; this would help with getting more stardust at once or fitting into tight rings. (PLRASING!)
The aesthetics wouldn't be too wild; I picture a bright blue sky as one skin, a peaceful night as another, and a weird surreal sky as yet another; the rings and stardust will be bright and very visible but the skies will be of pastel hues as will the props that help give the level substance. Pastel rings of rainbow and a smoke trail behind the cloud are the main props I have in mind.
Sorry if this is asking too much. I realize it's a lot of work to go through for what I assume are a niche minority of players. (How many people would listen to soft music in a game that plays like a rave?) Still, I thought I'd post it just to get it out of my system. Just describing it was a relief.
Didn't think anyone would read that wall of text. :V Glad it was interesting to at least one person though.
I loved that game on PS1.
